Silent Hill Origins

I just played SH:0 for a couple of hours and I thought I'd post some thoughts.

Well, it's definitely scary, no doubt about that. I offer this as proof: you may know that Travis da Trucker travels between Misty SH and OMGWTF SH via mirrors. The thing is, more than once while playing when I went from Misty to Nightmare, I forgot that I hadn't been in the Nightmare world already. Eek.

The music has the ambiance right, but it bothers me that it doesn't seem to be triggered very well. There will be panicky music when no monsters are around, calmness when they are around... It's kinda erratic, but that adds to the tension so I guess it's on purpose.

I don't know much about the plot yet. Currently I'm in the sanitarium. (I have to get the key for the Female Seclusion Ward from the Director, but I'm not quite sure how to do that yet.) So all I know is that Travis saved Alessa from the fire, Kaufmann & Co are hiding that she's still alive, and Dahlia is a bad mommy. Basically stuff I already knew. But the minor story bits are entertaining. In the sanitarium, you get bits and pieces about a patient named Helen who tried to kill her son because she believed he was the devil.

Speaking of which, twice already the screen has gone abruptly black and white and I've heard dialogue about those days. It freaked me out.

I was also freaked out 'cause I was wearing headphones (while playing alone in the dark) and at one point I thought this hissing noise was in my living room. o____o Woo, jumpy.

So, yeah, I like it so far.

Daylight Savings tonight. Losing an hour. :( Boo.
