lulz

Because at times my sense of humor is quite sardonic:

Today at my summer job, I was sitting at "my" desk (I have no desk, so I just sit at the desk of a person who is out) and the mail guy comes around and passes out these flat items wrapped in plastic. On the front is a note.

Dear fellow employees,

As a reminder of our new "Responsibility" advertising campaign we are enclosing this sheet of message magnets.

We are fortunate to work for a company where "doing the right thing" is so engrained in the culture and hope you will see that spirit captured in our new advertising.

Enjoy the magnets,

XXXX XXXX
Senior Vice President, Communications

Everyone is opening the packets. I didn't open mine 'cause it's really intended for the woman who actually sits at that desk. So I rolled my chair on over to my mom to see these magnets. They are rectangular and sea green with white text:

-If I hear a funny noise in the elevator, I call maintenance.
-I don't throw random stuff in the recycling bin.
-I know where the fire extinguishers are.
-If I take the last of the coffee, I make another pot.
-I fix printer jams. Even if they're someone else's.
-I hold elevator doors when I see people coming.
-I don't make meetings go longer than they have to.
-Responsibility. What's your policy?

That last one is obviously the whole tagline for the ad campaign. But, yeah, all that stuff apparently defines company responsibility and "doing the right thing."

What kills me is that this implies one of two things. Either they're congratulating the workers on being so responsible with useless magnets, or they're encouraging them to be more responsible, which means that line in the note about responsibility being "engrained in the culture" of the company is a total lie. But I doubt the company cares what the hell they mean.

Anyhow, cue the grumblings and incredulous laughter of all the poor office workers, recognizing that this shit is where all their potential bonus money is going, while the CEO of the company is making more money than they ever will in a lifetime. So I guess it starts out funny, but ends up kinda depressing. Er...

In fandom-related "news"... there is no news. I have been working on Impaired, though. This chapter seems to be coming along better than the last one, but we'll see what happens when beta time comes.

work, lol
