I am now officially Rec-ing

Well, I've decided that I read enough SGA and do such a crappy job of reviewing that I should start reccing. If that makes sense.

So, I guess I should announce that my preference tends to be for darker stories, mostly mcshep and will never tend towards sap. I really like it when people are innovative and play with the reader's expectations.

Mnemosyne
A very interesting take on John's background. Why I liked it was that the feel of the story really matched the point it was trying to get across. The author also made an interesting stylistic choice - comparing things John might say about his family and things he never will. At the end, you are left wondering exactly what myth is being referred to, but with more than enough evidence to easily pursue it. Unfortunately, I think that the story is a bit too bound up in the prose. It ends up being both a description and a history, but stops just short being a full-fledged story. I wish the author would take the time to make it more than just an explanation.

Mr. Fantastic and Einstein's Wife
The first part of this story is excellent - the concept, the POV (Sam's), the snark, the way the characters work together. The end, however, feels far too rushed. The author subjects us to a pretty abrupt POV shift, from Sam's character to a sort of meta-overview explain what happens next. It feels like the beginning of a real awesome fic, finished far too soon. It's worth reading, if only so you can also beg the author to make more of it.
