Facing down the dream I killed

a friend of mine recently introduced me to a web comic called Questionable Content by J. Jacques http://www.questionablecontent.net/ . The comic itself pretty good, though I find myself loving it and other comics like it for a different reason. The reason I like it so much is that if you look at the first issue and than all the subsequent ones you can see a the artist develop in his drawing style.

The changes from the 2nd issue to the 533rd issue

The characters facial features develop, the shading improves and the clothing and body's take on more form. I love being able to watch this change in a persons drawing style. This comic isn't the only example of this, though it's a good example of what you can do if you keep working at something.

It makes me nostalgic for the days when I dreamed of creating my own comics. Regretfully, I ended up stopping before I really even started. My rationale at the time was that I was wasting my time and that if continued my own lack of talent would have slapped me in the face. It's easy in retrospect to see why I stopped. Whats hard though is trying to figure out why I haven't started again. I know now that I don't need to create a masterpiece right off the bat. My abilities though amateur are at least as good as J. Jacques early stuff. Now I just need to brainstorm for ideas, which means I'll be drinking another cup of coffee or maybe I should just go to bed.
