Ok, so I don't update much. Call the blog police and have me hauled off to court...

Signed up for friendster a few days ago. Just hella curious. Now I have 5 friends, 100K up people in my "network" (wish I had that many people in my business network), and another site to update myself on these days.
It's just another take on the validation of the six degrees of separation theory, really, except that you're supposed to make friends and maybe hook up with other people looking to hookup. Systematized date referral/matchmaking at a basic level. Oh well, at least most people put in pics.
What I don't get is how some people in chat rooms ask complete strangers for their links/pages and ask them to add theirs. What's the point? You don't really know these people, and if you would refer them to a friend looking for a date, then you're not much of a friend. At the very least, subject yourself to the same treatment first (i.e. go out with that person, too).
Friendster now also provides some entertaining diversions, such as checking out the pretty people your friends know, as well as trying to totally freak out complete (near-complete? you ARE somehow connected) strangers by messaging them. Voyeurism and stalking potentials are pretty high. Somehow, somewhere, I know some freakoids have already thought about it. Hopefully, they're friends will tell them off. And if they don't, maybe the whole bunch of freaks are freaky enough to be actually isolated from the rest of the world, their own little island of six (sick) degrees. But then, that might be hoping for too much.
