Surprise!

A few days ago, on the wedding anniversary of my parents, Kuya Jason called. You can imagine how ecstatic I was because I only receive a call.. every... every... uhh... almost never??? We exchanged the usual pleasantries and moved on to our ritualistic "small talk". I dunno what had possessed me, but one of the questions I asked was this - "Nabalitaan mo ba yung stampede sa ULTRA?"

He replied, "Oo nga eh... Nakakahiya..."

Originally, when I asked the question, I didnt really give much of a rat's ass. Yes, the event was tragic, but I had always associated local shows like that with disorder and chaos. Thus, a stampede that kills almost a hundred people fits the category perfectly. Maybe, in the back of my mind, I knew it was bound to happen someday. I know it's such a horrid point of view, but don't take it the wrong way. I sympathize with the people who have lost their loved ones and of course, I send my condolences to the dead.

... but that was it. After hearing about it and feeling sorry for a minute or two, I just dismissed it and got along with my life. That is, until I talked to Kuya Jason.

He's right, you know. Nakakahiya nga. Imagine that. I think Wowowee's intentions of giving opportunities to people is great, but seriously, summon a mental picture. Imagine hundreds of people toppling over each other and for what? For Prizes. For Cash. oo, boy bawang na rin

I think it's a bit pathetic that people will go insane for cash. Hopelessness? Desperation? Who cares about the reason. I mean, if I took off all my clothes in public because I felt hot and sticky, I still took off my clothes right? Yup, it's poverty. People have been reduced to animals, resorting to anything just to even survive life. We've become droids motivated solely by money.

It's just a sick and sad little world. Printed pieces of paper have been given much more value than people's lives.
