I actually had a parent barge into my classroom today and rage and swear at both the kids and I. One kid started crying.

What. An. Asshole.

I'm fine. I was close to tears at one point, but that was when I was consoling a little boy who said that it was like the large angry man had looked right at him when he called out "the boys" for being mean to his daughter.

When I talked about the incident with our principal, I realized that my dominant feeling was anger. How dare he shout and swear at a group of 9-year-olds? If he was angry with me, he could have asked me to talk with him in the corridor. If he was angry at a couple of boys, he could have contacted either me, the principal or the boys' parents. Instead he came into our classroom, which we've worked hard to make a safe space, and acted in a way that, as we teachers are always telling the children, is completely inappropriate. And did he consider the consequences for his own daughter at all? At lunch, one of the kids very smartly pointed out that now maybe no one would dare to play with her any more.

The principal said that now the errand is her responsibility, and that I wasn't required to sit in any meetings with the parent in question. But I still have a parent-teacher conference with him this spring. Not looking forward towards that. If he's got any sense he lets his wife go instead (but he's already show-cased his lack of sense).
