Tour, Day 3

Sep 30, 2011 23:03

Slept late, my gut woke me up.
Went to a local thrift store, "The Treasure Chest" to find lounging pants, and managed a lovely set of sweatpants (with more pockets than most regular pants!) for $2.
Took those, my nifty washable shoes, and the things I'd worn on the train to the local laundromat: "Missing Sock Laundromat" (I still think that's ( Read more... )

I don't think the FiveFingers come in purple in men's styles, but I know that some of the women's styles come in lavender (often combined with grey). My Crocs are made of "Croslite", which is their proprietary plastic compound that has a bacteriostat permanently incorporated into it, and they are eminently cleanable. (Not like my Birkies, which can get really stinky in the summertime - although those can be cleaned also, rather laboriously.)

I wear sandals or other very unrestrictive styles all the time; if I added FiveFingers to my shoe wardrobe, I might never be able to stuff my feet into a pair of ordinary shoes again. (In fact, I probably can't anyway.) I've just been having an LJ conversation with maellenkleth about high-heeled shoes. She's over six feet tall, but she does wear properly dressy "feminine" shoes when appropriate. I never learned how to walk in high heels at all - at the age when other girls were learning things like how to wear heels and apply makeup, I was learning things like how to solder mil-spec and mix cement. (Don't worry; I also learned how to cook and sew.)

In the dressing room, we spritz the costumes (shoes included) with vodka, between shows, to kill bacteria and have the least effect on the dresser or actor.

The cheapest stuff works the best!

Wouldn't rubbing alcohol cut with water be even cheaper than cheap vodka? (Although I'd worry a little bit about any kind of alcohol, even the drinking kind, causing the dyes in some costume fabrics to run.)

The overspray would be harmful to the dresser.

The technique was developed by the Peking opera, as a means of NOT ruining the dyes!

I don't supposed the dressers mind getting a faint buzz from the vodka mist ;-)

I've known more than one actor who'd enjoy being spritzed with vodka ;-D
