I can honestly say that there wasn’t one thing about this episode I didn’t like. Not. One. Thing. And now I want to go watch The Untouchables again because that movie is just awesome. Yes. It indeed fills me with awe. *wink*
(I typed a lovely long comment...and LJ ate it up, so I went to bed. Trying again now, realizing it won't be as eloquent but I will do my best to replicate my 3 am wordiness

LJ was being a pain last night/this morning with the error messages. I was trying to finish posting this at 3am and it kept telling me that Frank was chewing on the wires. I was like, well get him away from the servers then, dudes!
I do think the show is building toward a total meltdown of Dean's world--even more than how grim it is now--and laying the groundwork for Dean to rise from the ashes. Because Dean will never verbalize the depth of his grief and depression--remember that 'locked box' he told Bobby about?Yep, totally agree. And I think they're laying the groundwork for that over and over. The thing that plays in my head though with this is that scene when Dean tells Sam he remembers Hell...how his face fisted up in pain and the tears tracked down and he confessed in a broken voice that he wished he didn't feel anything anymore
( ... )
Huh -- maybe you're right. I'd have to look up where they were in "Fallen Idols." I just know it sounded weirdly familiar.
But, how would Sam know to fear the "mom voice"?
In my experience, everyone fears the 'mom voice.' And Sam may not have had his own mom to lay it down on him, but he had Ellen, and he's been in friends houses and he's been around. The mom voice can hold as much power as John Winchester's Marine bark, says me. ;)
Yay for Sydney indeed! I won't know for sure until some time next week -- have to go through all these budget approvals and whatnot (which is crazy that they take so long to do so because the longer they wait the more it costs, but whatever) and if I DO go, I have to turn around and come back the day after the training is done because I can't be away from home that long with the hubs and Mo Chuisle and our little 'delicate balance'... BUT! There you go.
Thank you! What a great thing to say, I appreciate that.
And OMG - yes with the stopping breathing. There were moments where I gaped at my TV and was thankful later that my brain had actually kept track of what was going on.
If I make it there, I won't be there long -- just like 3 days (ish) for work -- but I still hope it happens! :)
i don't have time to read this now, but I scanned it real quick, I'll do a more thorough read later today. Ness called Dean a "bindlestiff". It's slang for bum or tramp. I doubt it's a word you've encountered much before unless you read a lot of OLD fiction. Go Doc Savage and the Thin Man! I told Bobby you'd comment on that. Looking forward to actually reading this later. I always look at the eps differently after you detail the stuff I glossed over because i was staring at Dean.
Thank YOU for reading. It would mean nothing if you guys didn't read and comment, seriously. :)
You're SO right about time travel = the frazzling of brain power. Because, yeah, had Dean and Ness actually killed Chronos back in '44, one would think it would mess up Dean's having even been there in the first place...which could have meant that he'd be slingshot back through time to where he was supposed to be....
But, luckily they kill him in 2012 with Dean back, so we had that settled.
Now, you note about the date quibbling -- you may be right. It could be that they only needed the exact time and not necessarily the exact date. I'd have to go back and re-watch (which I won't be able to do for awhile, so if you do, lemme know). I thought when Sam said he had the spell, they needed to know the exact date and time and then when he found the letter they had the date so all they needed was the time.... But I could totally have understood it wrong

I remember Canton, because I used to live there -- Football Hall of Fame and all.
Not sure about the Mom vs Marine voice, but then again *their* dad was *only* a corporal, yes? Mine was the dude who put him through bootcamp. ;)

Dean dressed in 40s garb was incredible. With the slicked hair, guh, I think I stopped breathing for a few seconds.
Hope you make it to Sydney, it's definitely worth visiting.
