The state of independant film in Canada

I'm producing a feature film! Contracts are signed, script is finished, lists are being compiled.
"Me, my Mom, and a Whistle" is based on the successful stage play by Lisa Meuser, and we have signed Gemini nominated director Scott Eldridge.

We are currently in pre-production for shooting next fall. In true independent spirit, I intend to avoid using the mainstream funding model of Telefilm and broadcaster involvement as much as possible. (Only partly because Harper has terrified regular film funding sources with his cuts and threats of censorship)
We hope to sign a distributor after the film is finished, so as to have more artistic control and fewer cooks in the kitchen. We are looking to premiere at select film festivals internationally, and to a limited big screen release after that.

So, I’m asking for your help. I’m looking for both personal investment, and corporate investment.

Personal investment doesn’t mean you get to be a producer; or own part of the film, it’s for people who are interested in getting involved.

I’m offering “benefit investments” at $500 each, which gets the investor a copy of the DVD, a press kit, invitations to the wrap party, release party, a swag-bag just like the stars and their name in the credits. A person can buy more than one benefit package, as gifts, or to have extra invitations to events.

Corporate investors can expect product placement and film credit in exchange for cash investment and/ product where appropriate.

"Me, my Mom, and a Whistle" is an offbeat comedy, targeting a male & female audience, 19-34 years of age. This is the most lucrative film market.

I’m interested in meeting with potential investors, including sports associations and/ or teams, liquor or beer reps, restaurants/ coffee shops, camping gear reps, etc.

Any help would be deeply appreciated!
