Yesterday I said I had done two and a half acrostic poems. Well! I finally finished that 'half' one. Enjoy!
I am reposting this and the other two in literary_me just for easy reference. In case you wanted to know
Ancient Bodies
Another time, another place
Nobody remembers his name or face.
Caught in the winds of eternal cold
Icy storms now batter the bold.
Eager, once, he did set sail
Never thinking he would fail.
Turned he his ship to the northern sea
Burying there from piracy
Obsidian orbs and jeweled crown
Diamond rings and emerald gown.
It was his current lady fair
Escaped from certain prison air;
Stole she the gems, the clothes she wore
Belonging to a Baron's whore.
Eternal night did enclose the ship
Gallant sailors began to flip
And gathered they to mutiny.
Newly knotted ropes o'erhung the sea.
"Turn back the ship," they called to him,
"Our lives or thine, thy choice 'tis grim."
The captain now they did surround
Whilst his woman fainted without a sound.
"I know where we are bound, me mate.
Stave off your rally and looks of hate
'Tis but a few more leagues to go
And treasure o'er the side to throw."
Nestled high above the deck
Did young eyes spy another wreck.
Descended he to give fair warning
Announcéd he, "We ha'en't 'til morning!"
None had time to act upon his word
Cacophonous rending they all heard.
Each man ran, his life to save
Iceburg, howe'er, tossed man to wave.
Netting caught the captain and
Tangled him up with knotted end.
Hangs he there e'en to this day
Eaten by the winds that slay.
Whitened bones now dance a jig
In howling gales upon that rig.
'Neath those bones within the net
Doeth lie the jewels of the lady yet.
The acrostic/prompt for this was/is:
