So... a couple of days ago, Gene got a phone call, and it is from a friend of a friend who owns a firm that contracts with companies who need programmers. He's interested in having Gene work for him. The job pays REALLY well.
The catch (or maybe the bonus??) is that right now, the majority of the work is overseas... in London.
At first I was thinking GREAT, wouldn't it be awesome to get paid a crap load to live in London for a few months to a year? But then I realize that a) I need to start a CFY job after I graduate, and I need to stay there a year to earn my certificate of clinical competence so I don't have to work under supervision. BUT I could possibly defer finding a job until we got back. And then we have b) you can't take a dog to England without putting them in a 6mo quarantine to ensure that they don't have rabies... and that would be pointless and cruel, given that we probably wouldn't be there for 6 months. I don't know of anyone who could keep our dog for such an extended time.
So what would it be like to essentially live here alone for several months? I don't have many friends here still... I do have some (Debbie, Cindy, a couple girls from school), but no one I'm close to. What would it be like to take care of this place by myself, while working at the same time? You know, it could be the opportunity that I've never had to live alone and rely on myself only. Maybe it is a great opportunity for me?
All that said, we don't even know the details of the job yet and whether or not it will work out. But it would be exciting however it works out.
