Relay for life

May 13, 2008 11:52

After almost forgetting that I was supposed to be there (thank you my amazing wife for reminding me!) Mandy and I headed down to Marietta to cheer on my Aunt Angela. The whole experience was amazing. My aunt is a little on the nutty side (as is my entire family) and she was having a ball. Stopping to talk to anyone and everyone and wearing a set of flashing purple glasses on her head. Around 9:30 we start to head toward the main stage since she is a torch bearer and the ceremony will be starting from there. Well....we all get out and do the electric slide with her (Mandy and Uncle David held back to take pics) and then a group of survivors that had formed a choir performed. After that the a group of bagpipers led the torch bearers on the first lap. Once they came back around to the main stage we all stopped and they played Amazing Grace. Not a dry eye from my family. After that they read the stories of the torch bearers from the people that nominated them. i was so proud of my aunt. We left not long after she got back down off of the stage, but it is an experience I will never forget. I think I am going to try to join her team and walk with her next year.
