Congratulations. You'll make a phenomenal crew captain.
Emotion regulation is something each of us struggles with to some degree. My personal experience has been the more passionate, creative, and introverted a person is, the more challenging learning to emotionally regulate can be. I agree with a lot of Smith's points. This is a new time for you in your life - this level of professional development and responsibility - and you shouldn't judge yourself for where you are *beginning* your new journey. Your managers don't. They see you are at the beginner's stage of your professional development, and they feel like the best way to bump you to the intermediate level is to promote you. You're at the cusp, and there is absolutely NO SHAME WHATSOEVER in having more to learn as a professional.
If there's someone at work you admire for *their* professionalism, ask them to be a mentor. I did this at my previous jobs, after someone recommended to me that I find a mentor. I found people who had what I felt I didn't - poise, cool/calm, and really crisp and compassionate delivery. (I am also a raging, stamping, swearing, throwing things hothead who entertained the office with her antics. Only difference between Smith and I is I dress like a Blaire Waldorf. Smith, when you look her up you will nod to yourself ;> )
I cannot stress enough, G - it is OK to still be learning things about yourself as a professional, and to be DEVELOPING the professionalism that you want to have. SERIOUSLY. It's normal, and you are *ahead*'of the curve, not behind it. Be kind to yourself. No, don't roll your eyes at me. I mean it.
Smith, when you look her up -whistles innocently- who me? why would I read this?... oh. wait.. whereas I dress more like ... uh. can't fill that in... Fraser and Luke danes are both more lumberjack than I mostly go, mostly. barney's and lee are both too much into tshirts that I only do for workout. most of the rest of my fandoms wear uniforms or are different times/fantasy, lol, or wear suits (house, hastings, rem steele) which I don't wear a jacket. Votes?
Only difference between Smith and I -blinks- lol, you guys get to read my inner self. my outer self... ok. yes, I've gotten a *little* better at.. expressing emotions instead..... of being silent but......... um. crap. never mind. yes. entertain office with antics and swear snarl antics in back where it's guys and if tey expect me to 'behave' they can go fuck themselves for the sexism since THEY don't. -sticks out tongue- ..you just gotta do it with character so it's funny rather than worrisome to most watchers (a few will freak no matter what you do -rolls eyes- they CAN learn, though)
