My kindness fell victim to exploitation today. I'm sure most of you come across people who prey on kindness and then run for your lives in the opposite direction. Sadly, my kindness exceeds at this point and remains kind to those vile individuals. Don't ask me why, because all logic points to my heart and gasps at the treatment I allow to befall me. Needless to say, I am offended that a friend of mine used my kindness as though it were an old towel. It's now lying on the floor, splashed with mud and grime. Unfortunately I cannot distance myself from this atrocity since this friend is my group partner during the weekly activities of English Village in the town of ShinChang, where the leaves have turned to a burnt orange. The situation (or offense, if you will) caused me to be stood-up for over an hour and a half waiting in the frigged cold weather at night. The jerk tried to make me feel better by stating that I am beautiful. As some of you know, this lame excuse does nothing to my actual feelings...it's a spur of the moment smile...something I can always live without. What burns the most (besides the thawing of my body) lies in that when I WENT to find him, he looks at me as though I ruined his agenda. My goodness, I was the kind soul who lingered in a town much longer than necessary JUST to enjoy dinner with a friend. And there was no apology, but that should have been expected.
Tomorrow I will travel to Seoul alone. I will be happily greeted by a Korean guy friend. He has invited me to watch the annual firework extravaganza. It is a huge deal to these Koreans. They are so excited about going to this park, and well, I am too. It's an island in the Han (Korea) Gang (River). The interesting thing is that I will be staying at this guy's home, with his family. (For all of you so concerned with my life, Myk doesn't care.) I actually feel nervous because of all the barriers between the two cultures. I hope this is Kosher in Korea...because if it isn't, I'm going to be a Mormon screaming women's rights. Luckily I have a paper to "work on" so I had to decline an all weekend stay, and that's for the best.
