nicl's said a lot of what i would have said - but a lot of his later work is worth listening to, it's just not terribly groundbreaking. check out stuff like the Light and his Dance Pieces. (also, i think nick meant symphony no. 3 not 2 - sorry baby!)
my favourite Glass works are still his+bob wilson's trilogy of portrait operas - einstein, satyagraha and akhnaten which i've performed about half of anf done exensive research/projects/bits of my degree on. performing them on stage was the most amazingly meditative experience - they completely changed my outlook on music at a fairly tender age. definitely worth checking out thewhole lot at one point with a whole bunch of k and acid. his concerto for double timps (forget its full name) is also stunning, but sadly hasn't been recorded yet i don't think. it's the only concert that, at the end, i spontaneously gave a standing ovation without really thinking about it. the most exciting piece of music i've heard live ever.
and john adams? yesh please. i'm not even going to begin geeking about adams here because i really could go on forever - check out Nixon in China, most of the stuff that nick suggested and his violin concerto - really challenging to sit through but so worth it.
i'll shut up now, anytime you want me to make you some cds of any of this bollocks let me know.
