JC bought us a wedding gift in 2006 that was really great, but it had a little bit of an issue. I asked if he could exchange it and he took it back fully intending to make the trade. I think he even managed to get a replacement for the gift, but the replacement and all of the other possessions in his life are now trapped in the lab of the startup company he left. The parting was terrible and he and his boss left on irreconcilable terms. It was so bad that his boss won't let him back on the premises and won't relinquish all of the things that he owned.
For some reason, JC felt bad that he couldn't replace the gift. I felt bad that he thought he had to make up for his boss' jerk behavior. After much discussion, Jenn and I agreed to let him take us out to dinner in NYC where he now lives. He offered to take us to
Gotham Bar and Grill. We knew nothing about this restaurant before going there. It turns out if you want to have a meal that tastes like a grand and costs that much too, this is the place to go!
The food was exquisite and the bar tenders made some amazing pre-meal drinks. Of all the food that I had that night, I will say that the
Juniper Spiced Muscovy Duck Breast main course was the most amazing and memorable meal. If I could have it every day, I would. This was the first duck breast I had that tasted like a steak. Usually duck tastes gamey and greasy from fat, but the chef did some outstanding work with this dish. Another note is the dish contains different flavors of duck. The thin cuts of duck were the most prominent, but there was also a duck fois gras that was the first FG that I actually liked. The purée included in the dish also had a flavor of duck. I honestly felt like a panelist tasting a winning entrée at the Iron Chef kitchen stadium.
JC, thank you for sharing this wonderful restaurant.
