Provoked by Adrienne's wonderful dream
here, I've gone and done another information post about Sugizo (\^-^/) *flails* Suuuggiiii!
Sugizo, who's real name is Sugihara Yuu, is half Japanese, quarter Chinese, and quarter German . He grew up in a very musical family; his father played trumpet in the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra where his mother also played cello. Being born into a musical family, it's only natural Sugizo be musical too. When he was a young boy, his father had him practice violin for 3 hours a day despite Sugizo's detest for it. Besides violin, guitar and singing, Sugizo also plays cello, flute, bass, and piano and quite possibly some others.
Up until Sugizo was around 10 or so, all he had been introduced to musically was classical music. One day he happened to see a KISS poster and immediately his interest was picqued and he gained a fascination with the visual scene. In high school he was a loaner and grew to love rock music, listening to bands like Duran Duran, and playing with make up. There in school, he met Shinya and at the age of 17 he formed a rock band called Pinocchio with him. While performing at livehouses, Sugizo and Shinya met up with another band called Lunacy, formed by J (Bass) and Inoran (Guitar). It wasn't until later when Pinocchio finally disbanded, that Sugizo (Guitar) and Shinya (Drums) joined them on January 16, 1989.
At that time, Lunacy had no vocalist, but a year later they found Ryuichi. A couple months after Ryuichi joined, Lunacy was changed to Luna Sea to have more of a peacful tone to it. The band's talent soon caught the eye of X Japan's guitarist, hide, who had them signed to X's label in a flash. Needless to say, hide had quite an influence on him; Sugizo even dyed his hair a shade of pink like his friend's. Next to X, Luna Sea was one of the first bands to ever sport the visual look that X had started in Japan. Over the next 10 years, Luna Sea made a total of 11 CDs. To this day, Luna Sea is one of Japan's top numbered bands with the highest CD sales in the history of it's musical acts.
In 1997, Sugizo decided to start his own solo project while still in Luna Sea, releasing his first CD, Truth. His sound in the CD was completely different from the bands; blues, techno, heavy riffs; it showcased how versatile and musically exposed Sugizo was.
Not only did Sugizo start his solo project in 1997, but his daughter, named Luna, was born. Somehow the identity of her mother has remained unknown to the general public.
At the end of 2000, Luna Sea officially announced their break up. Since starting his solo career, Sugizo has released 5 albums, 2 misc albums, 9 singles, and a DVD of his PVs.
Besides music, Sugizo has also dabbled in the acting world.
In 2001 he starred along with Kou Shibasaki (Battle Royale, Go) in the movie, Soundtrack, for which he composed the entire soundtrack for. The fantasy drama movie is about violinist Shion's (Sugizo) parents were killed in front of him. Then, his sister Misa (Shibasaki) dies of an accident.

In recent times, Sugizo declared Sugizo and the Spank Your Juice Project over, and moved on to start his next project, The Flare with a young upcoming singer named Yuna, in 2004. A lot of people point out the striking resemblence in the two of them. The Flare gained quick stardom, with positive sound. As Yuna says, it's "happy energy", conveying a message of peace, being especially vocal about the United States' involvement in Iraq, but alas, Sugizo has also announced the end of this project as well.
Sugizo has played at all sorts of shows, including the popular Sweet Trance and Kingdom Rock Show televised concerts with many other artists. His stage prescene is one no one could forget; his high energy running everywhere, the jokes he makes with the crowd, the jokes he makes making fun of the crowd; the goofy playfulness of his personality and the sincerity of his music coming together as one.
Most recognized for his incredible violin and guitar talent, Sugizo has been invited to play with some of the best. You can even find him and David Sylvian pictured together on David Sylvian's HP.
Sugizo's talent hasn't just gotten him classical and rock invitations; it's even gotten him asked to play for harder dark rock bands like D'espairsRay; in their song "Marry of the Blood" the opening violin part was played by Sugizo. (Oh god... look at that, even in a post about Sugizo D'espa pops up XD;;;)
