Hanazakari no Kimitachi E ep01
If you expect this to be faithful to Nakajo Hisaya's manga, you'll be sorely disappointed. It's like they took all of the high school drama stereotypes and incorporated them into the Hanakimi manga.x_x Oh well, it was still fun to watch anyway, and I'm looking forward to the next episode.^^

The exterior of Osaka Gakuen doesn't look like your typical Japanese High School. If it weren't for the name, you'd think you were watching the drama adaptation of Ouran Koukou Host Club.xD Or Meteo Hana Yori Dango.xD
The dorms are located beside the school. And this is what the dormers go through each and every morning:
Uwaaaah~!! It's F3!!Fangirls! Lots of them! Those guys are Nakatsu, Sekime, and Nanba-sempai, BTW!^0^
Instead of being an ordinary high school, Osaka Gakuen is something like an internationally famous exclusive school for boys that places more importance on their students' physical attributes than their grades.^^; Anyway, instead of Nihonbashi selling photographs to his schoolmates, there's a female photographer (papparazzi!) who operates a mini stand that sells photos of the boys to the fangirls.^^;;
And some girls from OsaGaku's "sister school", St. Blossom, took it upon themselves to guard the OsaGaku boys (especially Sano-SAMA!) as they walk to school. They are led by Hibari (middle), who was Oscar M. Himejima's rival in the manga. Her lackeys call themselves "Hibari Four" (H4 for short?xD)!x_x Hibari has a very big crush on Sano.x_x
The boys of Class 3-D 2-C are a bunch of bullies! And NAKATSU was the biggest bully of them all.:( He hit Mizuki with his Soccer ball! Whaaaa~! To think that he was the first one to befriend Mizuki in the manga.:(
They totally messed up the manga timeline in the drama. They moved everyone up a grade, and the dorm sportsfest thing in volume four was condensed into just a marathon in episode one. We never see Nakatsu challenge Mizuki at soccer. That was when she was supposed to be accidentally elbowed by Nakatsu, and have her secret discovered by Sano as he was carrying her to the Nurse's office.:/ Sano in the drama still has no clue that she's a girl. But he carried her on piggyback, didn't he find out then? Hmmm.
BTW, they so did not follow the manga's floor plan for their dorm room. Instead of bunk beds, There's a loft in their room, and that's where Mizuki stays. And for such a classy school, the bathroom door's lock isn't very secure.^^; Nakatsu uses a plastic ruler to unlock the door just to get Sano's shampoo (One of the fanservice-y and more hilarious scenes in the drama!).^^; Definitely a must-see.
They killed Nakatsu's grandma in this episode just to show his sensitive side, I think, because he's too mean!:( He and Kayashima are closer than ever.xD But then again, they've been roommates since freshman year.
And they added a principal! Tsubaki! Seriously, they should've just made her Io-san, Umeda-sensei's older sister and Nanba-sempai's mother. I think she's make a cool Io-san. At the back of my mind, I have a nagging feeling that she already knows Mizuki's secret, as she has just come back from OsaGaku's Los Angeles campus.:/
Anyway, recap of the episode:
Mizuki comes from California to OsaGaku and gets culture shocked by the long line of fangirls and the photographer. Class 2-C are a bunch of meanies the first time she meets them. Nakatsu hates her, and Sano's just Sano, only meaner. They have track trials, in which Mizuki breaks Nakatsu's record. News of this spreads to the other two dorms who want to recruit her for the upcoming marathon. She chooses the second dorm because of Sano. While moving her stuff into her room, one box gives, and Sano discovers that she came to OsaGaku because of him. On the day of the marathon, someone wearing spike shoes steps on Mizuki's foot before the race starts. Mizuki keeps it to herself and runs the race anyway. Sano overhears some Dorm 1 guys talking in the bathroom. It turns out that they injured Mizuki to ensure Dorm 1's victory, because they wanted to avoid being punished (with extra muscle training) by Tennouji. A couple of meters left in the race, it's only Mizuki, Nakatsu, and Tennouji left! Mizuki finally collapses from the pain. Nakatsu keeps on going for a while but stops when he sees that his fallen teammate in pain. Tennouji wins the race. Nakatsu runs to the Nurses' Office to get help as Sano takes Mizuki to the Nurses' Office on piggyback. After leaving Mizuki at the clinic, Sano really thinks hard about returning to high jumping, and Nakatsu learns from Kayashima that his grandmother had already died. At clinic when Mizuki wakes up, Umeda-sensei asks her what SHE's doing studying in an all-boys school.xD
Whew. I hope you didn't get a migraine from reading all that.
