Long Time Coming
Sam always thought that he and Gabriel would fall, drunk, into bed together for a mad passionate night of sex. He figured it would be wild, and exciting, and that Gabriel would get him to do things that Sam swore he would never do before. Then he figured he would get up the next morning with a serious hang over, no memory of what happened, and that he would deny even the possibility that it had occurred.
But that’s not what happens.
Gabriel’s been helping them hunting since being returned from the dead. God’s little joke on the joker being that Gabriel’s not an angel anymore; he’s just a man with a lot of information crammed in his head from his very long lifetime. Gabriel’s got no coordination it turns out; he’s pretty useless in a fight. His mouth has gotten them in more trouble than anything else has in years. But he’s a research machine and between Gabriel and Bobby, Sam and Dean have hit research and information GOLD.
So after a long couple of nights where they have all been under a lot of pressure trying to stop something, that Cas can only explain as a cosmic event in backwater Arkansas, they finally manage to trap and disperse a minor deity. In celebration they all go out and get hammered.
When they stumble back to the motel leaning against each other and grinning Sam opens the door and drags Gabriel inside. After all, they share a room because Cas and Dean have become unbearable since they finally got together. But dragging the archangel turned human into the room isn’t enough that night. Sam keeps right on going and ends up dragging Gabriel into his bed.
Nothing happens.
Well that’s not really true if Sam’s being totally honest. They kicked off their shoes and tugged off their pants, before curling up under the covers together where Sam made Gabriel the little spoon; falling asleep inhaling the slightly fruity scent of his shampoo, and thinking drunkenly about how perfect Gabriel fits in his arms.
The next morning Sam opens his eyes and finds Gabriel watching him intently. When Sam opens his mouth to stammer out some kind of excuse; Gabriel swipes his fingertips across Sam’s mouth and shakes his head, before slipping out of the bed and heading to the bathroom.
They never talk about it.
But things are different between them. Gabriel’s touching him more; hesitant brushes across Sam’s shoulders or against the back of his hand. One night while riding together in the back of the Impala Gabriel reaches over and holds Sam’s hand, while they all mourn the loss of an innocent person when they got there just a few minutes too late.
“I hate it when we’re too slow,” Sam mutters as they close the door to their motel room behind them.
“Me too,” Gabriel whispers and after a pause he adds, “Come to bed?”
Sam doesn’t answer but he strips down to his t-shirt and boxers, and sprawls on his back in the bed while Gabriel curls, solid and warm, against his side.
Sam sleeps that night, even though if anyone had asked him he would have told them it wasn’t going to happen.
Gabriel brings him coffee in the morning, just the way he likes it. Sam never even thought Gabriel had noticed.
It becomes a regular thing.
Once a month becomes every two weeks, then every week, then every couple of days; Sam just shrugs when Dean raises an eyebrow at the sudden lack of double beds. But Sam doesn’t really give a shit what his brother thinks; he’s sleeping better than he has since he was born, and the growing affection he’s finding with Gabriel’s presence is easing a lot of bad memories.
Sam feels like he’s finding home when they’re together.
It feels good. It feels like something he wants to hold onto.
So when Gabriel reaches across his chest to turn off the bed side lamp one night, it seems like the most natural thing in the world for Sam to cup the side of his face and press a kiss to the corner of Gabriel’s mouth.
The ex-angel lets out a stuttery breath before whispering, “Good night Sam,” and sliding back over onto his own pillow.
The night after that, it’s Gabriel who presses his lips to Sam’s cheek before sliding slowly over toward Sam’s mouth.
“Can I?” whispered so closely that Sam feels Gabriel make the words against his lips.
Sam buries his fingers in Gabriel’s hair and opens his mouth in response. Gabriel says he’s forgotten a lot of what he learned during his long life as an angel, but kissing clearly isn’t one of those things. Sam didn’t think people kissed like this; slow and deep, like Gabriel is taking measurements of Sam’s mouth with his tongue and planning to move in.
They don’t make it any farther than that for a while. Sam chuckles to himself one day when it occurs to him that he and Gabriel are having the slowest courtship in the history of mankind, with the exception of his brother and Cas.
So he’s not really shocked when he slides into bed two nights later and finds Gabriel naked under the covers.
“Are you trying to tell me something?”
“I started thinking you might be waiting for a sign,” Gabriel mutters.
“So you didn’t just run out of clean laundry?” Sam teases while he grins and drags a finger over Gabriel’s nipple.
The resulting gasp alone makes it all worth the wait. But it turns out Gabriel’s a vocal and responsive lover; and Sam is suddenly grateful for the fact that he’s sober, and they didn’t just tumble into bed for an exceedingly hot one night stand.
Gabriel mewls when Sam kisses him and writhes when Sam sucks and nips at his neck. By the time Sam makes it to his nipples Gabriel’s so hard that he’s leaking pre-come all over his belly. It’s something Sam just has to taste, and when he does Gabriel spreads his legs wantonly and shudders under his tongue.
It’s beautiful.
Sam’s surprised by Gabriel’s trembling hands and hesitant touches. He had expected Gabriel wild, and sure of himself, and the difference from Sam’s fantasies are a little disturbing.
“Are you okay?”
“I’ve never done this before,” Gabriel blurts as Sam slides on top of him and grinds their dicks together between their bodies.
“Bull shit Gabriel.”
When Sam goes to slide away thinking this has been some kind of overly elaborate trick, Gabriel clings to him with all of his now mortal strength and says, “No! I mean as a human. I’ve never done this. It’s different; you could hurt me. When I was an angel I never had to worry about that.”
“I’m not going to hurt you Gabriel.” Sam promises as he rubs soothing hands down Gabriel’s sides.
“I’m a lot smaller than you,” Gabriel warns.
“Well I wasn’t going to say anything…” Sam chuckles hoping the joke is the right way to go and he’s pleased when Gabriel snorts and punches at his arms.
“Fuck you,” Gabriel laughs.
“If you want,” Sam comments and when Gabriel’s eyes widen and his breath shudders he’s pretty sure he said the right thing.
Sam lets his head drop into the side of Gabriel’s neck and works his hips; enjoying the press and friction of them rubbing together. But as Gabriel starts to push at him Sam rolls over and lets the other man take charge.
He’s not entirely sure where the lube comes from. Maybe Gabriel has a spark of angel magic left in him after all. Sam’s blurry on the details of Gabriel working him open. It probably has something to do with Gabriel sucking his dick while he spreads Sam’s thighs and pushes one, then two, and finally three fingers inside of him.
Fuck that guy can suck dick. Sam ends up thinking about Grandpa Samuel naked and singing the national anthem to keep from coming before Gabriel’s inside of him.
When Gabriel leans up and slides inside, Sam gasps at the feeling of being filled, and then moans as the other man leans over him with a pounding rhythm and whispers, “Just in case you were wondering I’m totally in love with you.”
Sam’s eyes roll up as he comes with Gabriel following shortly after.
Sam chuckles as he slides his legs down and Gabriel flops boneless and relaxed on top of him. “I love you too you know.”
“Yeah I kind of figured that out when you started crawling into bed with me.”
