Ugh, school is so busy now that I barely have any time to loaf around on the intarwebs ;3; And whenever I'm not working on school stuff, I'm doing translations, so there's just no time for much of anything else. Aaa. Things should let up a bit in the spring, but until then, it's a steady schedule of too much work, too much procrastination, and not enough sleep.
But unf, I'm actually here to toss out a few recs before I disappear back into the ether.
The Mentalist: Three Firsts by X. (Jane/Cho)
I'm a huge tinhatter for fan of this pairing, so it's such a shame that there's barely any fic for them. X's stuff is really good - if slightly... lifeless? - and this is my favorite of her fics. Delicious, delicious manpain and sneaky love ♥
Snip: Jane froze a minute before his training kicked in. He ran a quick check of his own reactions and was stunned to find that even though his heart was racing, he wasn’t afraid. Cho leaned closer, fierce and beautiful, and when he grabbed the table as if he was going to leap across and eat Jane alive, all Jane could think was, yes, please.
Harry Potter: Harry Potter and the Incredibly Organized Personal Assistant by megyal (Harry/Draco)
I lol'd way too many times to count :'D Fun, snarky humor and Malfoy at his best!
Snip: "You mean the Slytherin way." Harry had been glaring right back at him, but there was something amused and fond in his eyes. "Fine, fine, I understand. Carry on, Existence Administrator."
He'd gone out, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips; Draco took a few moments to tell himself that he was a brilliant multi-tasker.
"I," he said aloud, "am so multi-tasked, things get done before I'm even fully aware of them."
Harry Potter: The Beauty of Trees by megyal (Harry/Draco)
This is one of the best short fics I've ever read. The story just flows so beautifully, dreamlike and sweetly quiet, with a lot more showing than telling. I just personally would've ended the fic at the last quote and left that final bit out. Anyway, brilliant and incredibly good.
Snip: Draco didn't even wait; he stomped off, casting only one quick look over his shoulder to see his mother lifting the edge of her dark-blue robes, walking carefully in another direction as Potter remained in the clearing, watching Draco. He stumbled a little, not expecting that Potter would have been staring at him and Potter flushed, spinning on his heel and trotting away. Draco hurried through the cool space in between the trees, feeling his own face warm strangely.
And finally, I totally have to pimp one of PMMP's newest songs, because it's just way too T__T
Lautturi (The Ferryman) by PMMP
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, full of sorrow and death ♥ The song references the Kalevala; more specifically Tuonela and the River Tuoni (our versions of Hades and the River Styx, respectively). The ferryman at the River Tuoni, however, is a girl called Tuonen Tytti (translated as Tuoni's daughter at least here), not a man, and in this song the singer pleads with Tuonen Tytti to find her lost love.
In Finnish: Viekää minut sinne missä hän on // virta ole halki edessä airon. // Viekää minut sinne missä hän on // lautturi, kuule mitä mä toivon.
In English: I beg you, bring me to him/her // may the current part beneath your oar. // I beg you, bring me to him/her // oh ferryman, heed my plea.
Hurr. I'm clearly not cut out for doing any ~poetic~ translations :'D
P.S. YLE News had an article on fanfiction today, with open comments. I lol'd so hard I almost peed :'D (This isn't the first time fanfic and/or slash has been mentioned in Finnish media. This article is from 2001 [I doubt anyone actually asked permission from either BlackRose or Rhysenn], as is this one [part 01 // part 02], while this one's from 2002 [part 01 // part 02] [I love the byline in this one: Harry on pihkassa Dracoon = Harry has a crush on Draco]. I'm sure there have been others, but these are the oldest three in my ~collection~.)
