Watching Angel: Forgiving - Double or Nothing

Dec 19, 2008 17:26

*Just a note* Since I have some new friends who may not know the background here. I'm in the process of watching Angel for the first time. I'd held off on watching it because I didn't like Angel's character on BtVS, but I was finally persuaded to give it a try. These posts are just my reactions as I watch. Not deep, insightful, or thoughtful in any way shape or form.

And I finally got around to watching a couple more episodes of AtS! Go me!

Forgiving -

Okay, Justine get brownie points for punching Fred. Yay.

The little girl in the white room was kinda creepy. She has the same evil grin that Angelus does.

And what have I been saying all along about those damn prophecies? Dumb stupid things. Nice twist on that. I much prefer that twist on prophecies over the whole "prophecy loophole" ploy that shows usually do. (Er...BtVS S1, anyone?)

And...Angel at the end...wowsa. I wasn't sure why he was clarifying that he wasn't Angelus, but then he grabbed the pillow and, dude. I think that's the most emotion we've ever seen from the guy.

Poor Wesley. I wanna huggle him.

Double or Nothing -

Cordelia!!! Yay!!!

Is she Miss Therapist now? It struck me when she was talking to Gunn that the words coming from her mouth just don't seem very Cordelia-ish. And again when she's giving the Poignant Speech to Angel. I mean, I know she's become more compassionate on AtS, but she just seemed off in this episode. More like her dialoague was written for the benefit of the other character rather than being something that she'd say. Disappointing for her return episode.

I love Groo, though.

And Gunn finally becomes interesting again. And, as a result, Fred/Gunn actually manages to be tolerable for a short period of time. Until the end when it falls because into overly sappy mush.

I think I'm mellowing on Fred, though. I actually did find her conversation with Cordy about Gunn breaking up with her to be funny. I still don't see the point of her character, though, and I still don't think there's much to her besides "Hey, look at this cute genius chick! Everybody loves her! She's cute!"

I actually found the soul thing interesting. Apparently, taking a soul from a human will kill them. I guess demons have some mojo that lets them continue living even sans soul, but a soul is such an intrinsic part of humanity that we can't live without one. Just something else to add to the muddled mythology of the soul in the show.

I liked the card game at the end. A 3? lol. Priceless.

Still wanna huggle Wesley.
