Mississippi Personhood Amendment: Addendum

I know my post on the Mississippi Personhood Amendment has been making the rounds. This is good. For the past week, I've been fighting the inclination to post on it again as I'm generally reluctant to wade into this particular topic. But I've seen some common questions/concerns come up so often that I'm just gonna take the plunge.

Wow, let's take gov't out of every nook and cranny of American life except for women's bodies, huh?

I boggle that it's gone as far as it has.

And then I cry a little.

This personhood amendment is obviously terrible, as are the prosecutions of women who've miscarried. But I also think anyone who commits a crime against a pregnant woman should, in fact, be charged with two counts of assault, attempted murder, whatever. Is there any way we can have that without getting tied up in all this personhood nonsense?
