Okay, so if you're like me, you're gonna feel a lot better when you have a backup of your bookmarks exported from delicious. Unfortunately, if you're like me, the export function isn't working

1) thank you for spelling this out simply. I just really want my bookmarks back. 2) I feel like an idiot but is this Mac OS X compatable? Because you said the start menu and I don't have one…
The same method can be used for Macs, you just might have to do some leg-work on your own. Another slightly more general description of the process is here: http://brownbetty.dreamwidth.org/541789.html
here is a description of how to get at your hosts file. There are probably other ways, but it's been years since I've touched a Mac much less had to go digging in it's guts.
I'm with Delicious, and have some modifications that should work on a Mac. Just replace steps 1 & 2 in the post with these instead:
1. Open a Terminal app by going to Application/Utilities in Finder and double clicking Terminal 2. In Terminal type: sudo open -t /etc/hosts. Use your login password when its asks for a password.
omg it felt so nice seeing the old site again!! I've moved to pinboard and I'm loving the nice clean old fashioned design! (needs organising though!)
For mac.
1. open terminal 2. type "sudo vi /private/etc/hosts" (without quotes) enter your password. nothing will appear on the screen, once you hit enter you'll know what you've entered is right or not 3. press the i key (the text at the bottom of the page should change to --- INSERT--- 4. move the cursor to the end of the last line and hit enter to start a new line, cmd+v (or shift+insert if your a VIM guru) to paste those values. 5. Now the hardest part! in this order press: shift+esc+; (which should be : really seeing as you have shift selected but you know the key I mean. the type "wq" (no quotes) and hit enter 6. Follow the steps above 7. go back to terminal and press the up arrow, hit enter repeat the above steps and remove those entries you added or just # them out

Hi xhan104,
i followed your instructions and they worked perfectly for me thanks.
except that now i cannot delete the values from the terminal app. always gives me an error sound and i am not sure what you mean with "# them out". can you give me another hint on how to delete the changes in terminal?
