Sunday rape linkspam

Note: I'm gonna be in England for the next two Sundays. I'm not sure if I'm going to be doing the linkspam during then. We'll see.

Okay, this isn't directly related to rape culture, but it is on the fringes. Plus, I just found it interesting and relevant to my interests. Yes Means Yes! has a summary of some new research that builds off that 1989 ( Read more... )

Again, great links! Especially the first - it really made me think. Of course, with my background in psych, I couldn't help but think of a counter question to the study: what might men perceive about a woman who agreed to a sexual scenario as described in the study?

It's an interesting question. Most recent research I've seen has shown that the gender double standard with regards to sex is disappearing, so the answers to that question might encouraging. On the other hand, "is disappearing" =/= "has disappeared" and oftentimes people have subconscious reactions that they would never explicitly express (so they might be internally judging such women harshly while saying otherwise to the interviewer).

I'm halfway curious to see if there is any current research on it. Maybe during my spring break.

I was wondering that as well. One would think that that question has been examined before. The other thing I would wonder is not just whether the men would view the women harshly in that context but also how often men might possibly take things too far in a scenario like that. After all, I would imagine some women might say yes to a scenario like that and then regret it later...but how might men respond to that?
