Not a Lady

Lately I've been watching TV on Hulu because I need something mindless for study breaks during this finals week (one down; three to go!). And...well...TV is mindless.

Necessary backstory: I hardly to never watch TV, so I'm not at all up on what's popular or anything.Anyway, my viewing on Hulu is predictably methodical as I try different shows and ( Read more... )

That one is on my queue to watch. Though I think I can only watch the newest episodes on Hulu. I'm hoping to come across something that wows me still. :)

Did you ever watch Alias? It's been a long time since I watched it, but I remember the first few seasons being pretty good.

Nope. Have heard of it. Never watched it though. I'll check it out. :)

We are so much more. We're funny, we're strong, we're determined, we're proud, we're driven. Some of us are horrible people. Some of us are true heroes. Some of us are opportunistic turncoats. And I want to see all that on TV and in movies. I want to see women being all that they are.
Torchwood: Children of Earth.

OK, so it's got a "hero with a dark past seeking redemption", but he's got a boyfriend, so give him a chance! :)

You know, I still haven't gotten past my giggling fit at Torchwood S1 to give any more of it a try. Guess I should do that. :)

'Children of Earth' is like a completely different show. Throughout the whole first episode my jaw was on the floor as I kept saying to myself "Holy Crap IT GREW UP!" Sometimes I still have to pinch myself...

lol! That's what I've heard. Well, I've heard various, often contradictory, opinions on CoE.

In terms of new shows, The Closer focuses on a woman solving crimes. I believe so does Saving Grace and Cold Case. Now I don't know how much of it is teamwork type of stuff but the women lead the teams. What about Veronica Mars? She is a plucky blonde that can take care of herself and solves crimes.

And in the Xena-feel, there is Legend of the Seeker, which has Kahlan kicking ass in every. single. episode. Along with an order of female warriors called the Mord'Sith. It's based on the books by Terry Goodkind but it's produced by the same guys that did Xena.

Female superheroes, there was the short lived Birds of Prey. No Heroics, a UK show, has female superheroes but it's more of a comedy. It's still a great show though.

I need to check my DVD collection because I know I have more female-driven shows I can rec to you.

*hugs you*

Let me add this stuff to my list.

Actually, I watched the first episode of S2 of Legend of the Seeker and wasn't too into it. I didn't watch any more. I was disappointed since it is a Raimi show, but...eh...I can give it another look.

Totally second Veronica Mars, but I would not go near Saving Grace with a ten-foot pole. I watched the first couple episodes, and it's not worth it just to see a female lead.

goldenusagi beat me to the Alias suggestion. :P
I really enjoy that show and it has what your looking for. :D

Along with Alias you could check out Dark Angel. <3 Amazing heroin with super powers who knows what she is doing. I definitely recommend it. (Maybe even more than Alias but Alias has more season to compete with in comparison.)

I knew some people who were into Dark Angel. If I recall, it didn't last very long. Ah well. Will check it out. :)

Ya, they cancelled it after two seasons. I wish it would have gone on for longer, but I also really really like how they ended season two, but I wouldn't have wanted them to jump the shark for a third season so I actually don't mind that it had a shorter run.
