I live in the action of death.

Now that I got to rewatch it, here's some things I love about Restless:

- Putting aside the symbolism and foreshadowyness, I love how it feels like a dream. I've always had intense, vivid dreams that I usually remember for days with no problem. And, inevitably, fictional depictions of dreams never quite seem dreamlike. They're missing something. ( Read more... )

I strongly encourage a rewatch. Oooo...I should rewatch the Joss commentary, too. I love that commentary.

Yes! TV/movie!dreams are always much, much too coherent and not nearly weird enough to be anything like actual dreams. "Restless" is definitely the only one that measures up.

- Miss Kitty Fantastico and the Slow Walk of DOOM!!! I looove that! My favorite throw-away line in the whole of the show is in S7 when Dawn says the thing about crossbows and Miss Kitty Fantastico.

And Buffy laughing at it. SMG is the definition of adorable. I know everyone else goes on and on about Alyson Hannigan being too cute (which she is), but when SMG turns on the cuteness, I just become so unreasonably happy. Probably because it's more...hard won with her, you know?

A lot of filing and giving things names. Gah, I just love that line.

THE DESERT SCENE. HER SPEECH. YES.

- I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the one thing I don't like about the episode, and that's the POC as the snarling, menacing savage figure. It's very icky, especially considering the overwhelming whiteness of the rest of the show. I'm so glad you mentioned that. I ( ... )

I know! We so rarely get to see Buffy just being happy or laughing. It amazed me going back to S1 to see her smiling all the time. Because she almost never does in the later seasons. Well, not without a bunch of weariness.

I'm always startled by her cuteness. Like drunk!Buffy in "Life Serial." I feel like I always end up grinning at her just like Spike is.

Well, not without a bunch of weariness. My idea of what Buffy's future holds shifts all the time, but one thing remains constant: my hope for her is that she'll one day be able to smile without that weariness again.

Mine doesn't. It holds lots of hot, kinky, fantastic sex with Spike. And that's sure to make her smile. ;)

Yes. They're always too obviously random, or too obviously trying to get a blatant message across, and end up being just a bunch of crazy things happening. Restless, though, it really FEELS like a dream.

Yep yep. Also, I've found most dream sequences in shows/movies have the person somehow too self-aware. Like they know it's a dream. Restless captures that complete complacency you get while in a dream. That, while things may not make sense, they still don't seem strange when you're in the dream. You just accept it.
