I was torn between Surprise/Innocence and Helpless on the birthday question. To be honest, Surprise is kind of a dud, but Innocence just wrecks me every time.

Also, I love Tabula Rasa, but that really has nothing to do with the break-up. If I were choosing based on which break-up I liked best, it'd probably be Into the Woods, because I do enjoy Riley leaving town. :)

See, I had to choose Helpless cause I knew everybody else would be choosing S/I. Also, Kralik is the most awesomest one-shot villain EVER!

Hee. Yeah, it's less a "break-up episode" than "and episode that had a break-up in it". But if I didn't include it....

To be honest, I think the best break-up scene is probably Oz/Willow. They make me cry. But I didn't pick that episode because I don't like the whole Veruca thing.

You know, I have almost no opinion one way or the other on Veruca. She's just a means to an end in the episode anyway.

Ah, Willow/Oz...

For break-up episode, it was totally Lovers Walk. Cuz, Spike, duh. *g*

And I chose The Zeppo for the apocalypse episode, just because it so totally tickles me that the apocalypse is all off screen. That is fabulous.

I chose Lovers Walk for the sheer efficiency of it. Two, count 'em, TWO break-ups in one episode! Two! And, of course, it's all cause of Spike. Perfect.

And I chose The Zeppo for the apocalypse episode, just because it so totally tickles me that the apocalypse is all off screen. That is fabulous.

It is, indeed. I almost chose Doomed just because of the attitude of the Scoobies of "What? Another apocalypse??" Only on Buffy... :)

Honestly, I would have said "Lovers Walk" has three--Buffy/Angel don't exactly have a breakup since they weren't together, but it has a very similar feel to me. And then we get the pretty, pretty montage scene! With the sad music! Gah, what a good episode.

Trufax, but considering the number of "break-ups" Buffy/Angel had in S3, I tend to just lump it all into their final one, The Prom. ;)

This was a hard poll! < / pout >

Best Halloween episode?

Halloween, though Fear Itself was a close second. Halloween gets extra points for Ethan-y goodness (the first instance of such), Dark!Giles ass-kicking scene, Spike, and the title.

Best "Buffy's birthday" episode?

Helpless. It's both intriguing and touching.

Best season opener?

I debated for a while between Buffy vs. Dracula and Bargaining, but eventually went with BvD for the dark examination of slayer power and the throwback line to Restless.

Best break-up episode?

Hardest question of the lot. They're all so damn good! Lover's Walk and Tabula Rasa are good mostly for the funny stuff before the actual break-up, though Tabula Rasa did get emotional at the end. I eventually decided that Hells Bells is what evoked the most emotion. Also, I think I Was Made to Love You (Warren/Katrina) should have been included. Not my top-rating break-up, but it was quite good and deserves a spot. (And it gives me great pleasure if I can elicit the *headpalm* icon on these polls. =P)

Best ( ... )

Yes! Another vote for Helpless!

Word.

I shall disappoint you but give you vamp!Willow in consolation. I need no particular reason to use a vamp!Willow icon. It's always appropriate.

The episodes I chose weren't my "favourite" ones out of the list, exactly. I was choosing them based on the questions (like the last one - I think The Gift is a better episode than The Zeppo, but not a better "ZOMG an apocalypse!" episode...)

Hee. I was actually specifically thinking of Doomed with that question. :)

Making me choose between "Surprise"/"Innocence" and "Helpless" is mean. I'm not huge on the early seasons, but those work. (When Joyce asks Buffy what she got for her birthday, and Buffy says, "Older"? I am wrecked.)

I find all the season openers underwhelming. I went with "Anne" because the great Buffy power shot (see icon) came from that one.

"Lovers Walk" is a better episode, but the actual breakup in "Wild at Heart" just shatters me (OH OZ!). I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to pick best episode or best breakup, but I went with "Wild at Heart."

"Band Candy"! I haven't watched that one in forever! I'll have to do that soon!

I'm really a sadist. ;)

Technically, it would be best episode, but it's not that important.

"Band Candy"! I haven't watched that one in forever! I'll have to do that soon!

I encourage this action. :)

Me too! What is the deal? Joss is clearly better at finales than premieres.

I think he's just not that great at starts of any kind. He takes a while to get going. "City Of" is just okay, "Serenity" is better than "The Train Job" by a lot, but still not Whedon-worthy, and the opening episodes of Dollhouse were kind of awful. It's something he needs to work on.

The only season premiere I remember being impressed by was the opening of S4 of AtS, which I remember being wonderfully dark and creepy. But Steven DeKnight wrote that one, and he does dark very, very well, so maybe that's got something to do with it.
