A Tribute to Willow's Hats

Jun 23, 2009 21:43

I had some free time in between bouts of fighting crime (my superhero name is "Awesome Kick-Ass Girl". Also known as "aka G". Get it? Yeah, I shouldn't try to make jokes). Anyway, by "fighting crime", I clearly mean "writing about social issues". I've always wanted to write something about Willow's hats, though, as they have given me hours of ( Read more... )

I'm pretty certain your icon is from the first season of Veronica Mars.

(And I never realised just how many hats Willow wears! *boggles*)

*gives you super-special cookies*

I've always wondered where that was from because I was pretty sure it wasn't from BtVS. For one, that hat's actually halfway decent...

Huh. I guess that technically counts as a non-Willow icon then.

Blasphemer. Spike judges you.

*looks baffled by talk of hats and fashion*

You know, amusing note on the graduation cap, though. There's a Foundation novel, one of Asimov's last, in which variations on the cap and gown are still standard uniform for Imperial Librarians ten thousand years in the future. So they can't be all that silly, can they? ;-)

Well, they can still be silly. It just means that people inherently like to wear silly hats. With tassels.

Or maybe Asimov thought they looked spiffy. Which is also silly.

That's an amusing thought: that the Imperial Library's stuffy atmosphere is one big joke they're playing on the galactic population....

LOL!

This was a most excellent compilation! It's too bad that S6-7 Willow apparently gave up on hats, however this:

Apparently Barney the Dinosaur exploded and a piece of him landed on Willow's head.

is leading me to some frightening speculation, since at the end of "After Life" Willow appears to be wearing Elmo's pelt. What does she have against muppety childrens characters?

rofl! Well, that's apparently a sign of Willow's descent to the Dark Side.

I think Willow has a penchant for fuzzy sweaters. She's worn many over the years. Also, brightly-colored overalls are a thing for her in high school.

I'd like to offer some more hats for your consideration:

Yeah, I think Giles may, with those two single hats, steal the crown in the bad head-wear department.

It's clearly an epidemic!

Though I must say, at least people point out how goofy Giles' hats are in-show. I mean, Buffy never actually says, "And orange and white pom-pom hat, Will? Really? Just...really??"

Heh. I'm giggling at Buffy's hat there and I'm not entirely certain as to why...

I personally think Buffy is wearing that during the episode First Date to show she's now accepted Spike's dark past and wuvs him. :)

This made me giggle. A lot. Your commentary was priceless, and since I tend to rewatch the later seasons more than the earlier ones, I sometimes forget just how many ridiculous hats she wore. Always good to be reminded!

Also, Alyson Hannigan is so awesome on Veronica Mars. I want to give every award ever to whoever cast the Echolls family. Most brilliant casting ever with those four, I swear.

Yeah, I focus more on the later seasons, myself. Whenever I'm doing a rewatch, though, I'm always hopelessly entertained by Willow's hats in the early seasons. Too bad she stopped wearing them after S5.

And I haven't watched VM yet...it's on my to-watch list!

I kind of loved what the hats say about Willow--that (just like the Inuit costume that Oz falls in love with her in) she is going to wear that hat and who cares what anyone else thinks. It makes me happy.

Oh, you totally should give it a chance! Season 1 is practically perfect in every way, and I adore S2, too. S3...well, I blame the network for that. But it's well worth checking out.

I've tried persuading Gabs to watch Veronica Mars before. Perhaps the icon and your resounding rec will give her the push she needs!

Smart, snarky female lead? Check.
Hot bad boy overcoming an evil past? Check.
Awesome supporting cast? Check.
Fighting crime/evil/mysteries? Check.

So many parallels to BtVS. She'd love it.
