Thanks to everyone for their support earlier this week. Things are going along well -- sort of. ConTessa's fever passed without much incident (though her bowel movements have been runny to mushy since then ( Read more... )

Hon, you have gained my respect. If you can keep to an exercise regimen while taking care of 3 kids, you rock ( ... )

Wow - you've lost 50 lbs? I'm impressed. You surely managed to keep focus. Hope I'll have a tale like that to tell (at the moment, my tale is that after 13 months of LDN I've gained 40 lbs. So not fun at all - big part of the reason why I'm quitting the meds). It doesn't matter what gets you going, what matters is that you keep your focus and determination and dream about how you will be, then you'll get there.

What I "forgot" to mention is that this past year I gained 15 lbs back. :-) My exercising has been iffy recently - i.e., whenever I feel like it. As for focus, like I said, I had about two dozen false starts - exercise/diet for a couple of weeks, then stop and gain weight. I don't really know how I managed to finally keep it going, but once you get in shape, you start to crave exercising, and it becomes easy. Takes about a month to get to that point, though ( ... )

No one crave rough rye bread? Hm... you don't kow me then. Thin slices of dark, hard rye bread with hard white cheese with radishes, or with picled herring, or smoked mackerel and cucumber or with butter and orange marmalade, or... *wipes off drool* I love rye bread, it's just darn hard to get hold of, and I haven't found a recipe I like. *sigh*

Can I have your egg yolks? *looks hopeful* I'd use them as an excuse to gorge myself on beef tartar. *g*

Oh! Banish these evil food thoughts - how will I be able to sleep with my mind filled with thoughts as these?

Hmm, I don't remember mentioning anyh pickled herring, butter or marmalade in my diet. :-) Someone *wink* was doing their own interpretation on it. Funny how I mention egg whites and you jump to beef tartare. Not that I don't understand - I am a gourmand, too. But I gave it up for a while, when I decided to lose weight. It's not even tough, after the first 3 weeks. For example, I love French baguette (really really love), but I got to a point where I could walk by it and feel my stomach turn over in disgust - bread, yuck! (unfortunately, I'm back to loving it now). The only thing I could never ween myself off was chocolate. Didn't even try. :-)

With or without kids, getting on a program and sticking to it is hard.

I like your reason! My biggest hope is that the girl who was my biggest nemisis in high school will be on the hefty size. She was actually prone to it in high school (which I was not, but still she was the popular on...go figure...just goes to show what money and attitude will get you). I'm feeling pretty good about myself after a week on this ab program, and the Admiral's a big cheer leader (biased, of course, but supportive nonetheless).

You've had a tough go the past few weeks, but stress relief is a good reason to start up again -- even if it's just walking.

I actually went running today - yay! To be accurate, I went to the gym, thinking I won't be depressed if I can't run, it's normal after so much time aso. I was going to try running a mile, and then walk a few more. Well, one mile turned into two, by which time I was still feeling fine, and before I knew it, they had to kick me out b/c the gym was closing. I ran 5 miles today! *Does happy, disbelieving dance.* Last time I ran - about 2 months ago - I think I did less than 2 miles, with many breaks in between. Where did I get the energy from today? No idea. I think you did inspire me! Hugs and high fives.

Oh, I forgot to say: if that snotty girl is not a hefty woman (I like that expression), just think "liposuction"! :-)

I'm very happy to have inspired you! I hope you aren't too sore today. That sometimes happens to me after having been away from working out for a while. The first time back is like a dream, then I really feel the pain of doing so much the next day.

Either way, keep at it! I actually got to go out for my cardio yesterday as the Admiral was home to watch the kids, it was...not exactly fun, but more interesting than jogging in place, to be sure. And I covered more distance than I thought I would in the given amount of time (I don't know how far it was, but I know it was further than I expected!).

"I hope you aren't too sore today."

Nope, not too sore. It only took me about five minutes to get out of bed. Now if only I could walk 10 steps to the door. :-)

Running outside is way tougher than running on a treadmill. I know - I used to do both. Doesn't the hot weather bother you? We're having a heat wave around here, and I couldn't run outside now even if I was in shape.

Well, I don't have a gym membership or a treadmill at home -- so it was either that or run in place in the basement again.

I wouldn't say the heat bothered me while I was out. I sweat alot and my face turned red -- but that happens on crisp fall days too...just the way I react to exercise. I didn't go out until just before dinner time and a good portion of my route was in the shade with a light breeze to boot.

However, despite massive hydration post run, I did end up with a headache last night (that is lingering today). I suspect it is a combination of the workout in the heat and the thunderstorm that rolled in last night. Even without working out, a storm can give me a headache like this.

The best shape I ever was in in my life was when I lived in Hawaii -- so I did get used to a certain amount of heat when I worked out -- but being on the ocean did reduce the opressive humidity quite a bit.
