do you believe in evolution?

i had a conversation last weekend with a good friend of mine, who's views of life are 180 of me.  she is a confirmed baptist who will accept your alternative life style because you don't believe in the same god she does, and luckily (which is a reason we're still friends) won't preach her faith to the masses (even though she does believe that her faith is 'the right way to live' - "why would i chose to live something that wasn't the right way?")

so when tweezing this out i learned that she's fine with people being gblt, as long as they aren't christian, because the bible condemns a man loving a man. she's fine with my belief in evolution, because i'm not a christian, but thinks people who believe in intelligent design are just as sinful as christian gblt because in the bible god made the world in seven days, and that means seven calendar days.

some of you may ask why am i friends with this ultra religious girl, who lives in such a different world than me, and i'll answer why not? she's a , funny, smart, generous, things i look for in all my friends and - life is better if you surround yourself with different people.

but i was surprised by her stanch standing on evolution vs. intelligent design vs. "the seven days"

which leads me to the new twist in my life - i've gotten a new job as an on-site coordinator for a science camp, which rents its space at a methodist camp. i visited the site for the first time this week, and couldn't get over how much it looked like the seventies-era churches my parents used to take us to as kids. the main reasons for this are: a) most of the buildings are from the seventies and not only  have the paisley decor but the cheap construction techniques of linoleum floors, formica counters, thin walls and wood paneling. of course, it also could be b) the bibles, hymnals, crosses and god loves you posters everywhere.

so yeah, it'll be fun to live there and know that i’m teaching principals based on the religion of science and all it's evolutionary glory.

(p.s. the subject is a real question to anyone reading this)
