Rarely have I felt so disheartened

I wonder why I care so much. It would be much easier just to ignore the twists and turns I can't do much about anyway.

I didn't like America much the first time I lived here. Then coming back in the sixties the people and country were different and I could really respect a people willing to question and eager to improve their country. People who would fight against the status quo even though it endangered them in their own land. People who were truly motivated by love and caring instead of fear and arrogance.

I still waited a very long time before deciding to make it my country. No duel citizenship, even though I will always love Europe and that will always be part of who I am.

What I see today truly makes me sad
