Gabe walks into his apartment and sees the one thing that he never wanted to see in his entire life: William crying.
“Oh my god, Bill, baby, what’s wrong?” he says as he quickly makes his way over to his boyfriend. He’s sitting on the bed, cross-legged, with a scribbled-in notepad laid open in front of him and about half a dozen used tissues scattered across the sheets.
William looks up, sniffles, and then gives Gabe a weak smile. “Nothing, now that you’re here,” he says, as his smile grows wider.
Gabe gives him a small laugh as he goes to sit on the bed next to his boyfriend. He wraps his arms around William’s side and rests his head on his shoulder. “You okay?”
Bill sniffles and answers with a simple “I miss you.”
Gabe sighs and says, “I’m right here, baby.”
Bill laughs half-heartedly and then says, “You know what I mean. You do know what I mean, don’t you? God, we’ve barely been spending any time together over the past couple of months.” He stops talking to blow his nose into yet another tissue. “I miss being with you. You’re my boyfriend. I like having you around. I miss it.”
“I miss it too, Bill. I really do.” Gabe leans more into William’s side. “We’ve both been so busy lately. With you recording, and with us promoting out new album, it’s really hard. But we’re making it work, right Bilvy?”
“Yeah, I guess,” he concludes. “I just feel like we’re drifting apart. Miss us being together.”
“Hey, we’re together now! Let’s not waste time crying, huh?”
Bill giggles, and then sniffles again. “Yeah, you’re right.”
Gabe sits up straight and before William can say anything, he’s pressing a soft kiss to his boyfriend’s lips. Gabe can feel Bill smiling against him as he relaxes into the kiss. William then pulls away and Gabe frowns at him, but then William then looks down at his notebook and rushes out “I wrote you a song.”
Before Gabe can reply, William slides off the bed and runs into the other room to grab his guitar. “It’s not exactly finished yet, but I still wanted you to hear it,” he says as he walks back into the room with his favourite acoustic guitar.
Gabe is practically beaming at him as William sits back down on the bed, reaches for his notebook and starts playing.
It starts off light and sweet with whispered lyrics about trust and hope, and Gabe just sits there, taking this all in, breathing deep with an enormous smile on his face. Bill doesn’t look up from his notepad, afraid to see Gabe’s reaction. This song is what he feels. It’s his emotions and his deepest thoughts and everything he’s too scared to say to Gabe, so he’s singing it to him instead.
When it hits the chorus, he starts playing louder, now belting the lyrics, and Gabe only smiles wider. He can’t stop smiling. He can’t help it. He’s in love. His smile only gets bigger at the realization. He’s in love with William Beckett.
Bill starts playing quieter again, as the song is coming to an end. He still hasn’t looked up from his book since he started playing. The song ends with Bill’s biggest secret. The one thing he’s been keeping in for days. The one thing he’s been waiting to tell Gabe for so long.
A soft “I love you” escapes William’s lips as he strums the last chord, looking up for the first time since he started playing. Gabe’s mouth starts to hurt from smiling so wide, but he still can’t help it. William breathes out a heavy sigh as he turns around to place his guitar down on the floor beside the bed. As soon as he turns back around to face Gabe, he’s tackled onto the bed, looking up at the other boy. He sees his boyfriend’s goofy smile plastered on his face, and the only thing he can do is laugh. Gabe is lying on top of him, trapping the younger boy beneath him, chuckling as he stares into his boyfriend’s beautiful chocolate brown eyes.
“I love you too,” he whispers quietly, as if he wanted nobody else to hear, because nobody but William deserved to hear those words coming from Gabe’s lips. They’re both giggling, and Bill reaches a hand behind Gabe’s neck and he pulls him down into a deep, passionate kiss. Gabe hums against the younger boy’s mouth as his soft lips move against his own.
William pulls away slightly to mutter, “I’ve been waiting so long to tell you,” against Gabe’s lips.
“Me too.”
It wasn’t a lie, either, because despite not having realized that he was in love until about five minutes prior, he just knew.
Gabe falls over to the side and wraps his arms around Bill’s waist. His head rests in the crook of William’s neck as he places small kisses along his skin. He can feel his boyfriend’s stomach rising and falling along with his deep breathing. His hand moves to rest right above Bill’s heart. He smiles against William’s skin as he feels the heartbeat of the boy he loves, who is lying on the bed right beside him. He’s so goddamn lucky to have someone like Bill.
Gabe pulls William towards him so that they’re facing each other, foreheads pressed together, staring into each other’s eyes, arms and legs tangled together. The two lie there like that for god knows how long. Time has stopped for them.
Breaking the silence, Gabe asks, mockingly, “Do you still love me?”
William chuckles and responds with, “Yes, I still love you Gabey.”
“Good. I still love you too,” Gabe says as he pulls him into another kiss.
