Day 5 - Favorite Female cartoon villain/antagonist.
Avatar wins again. XD
I'm not counting anime characters/shows in this meme, so Azula was definitely the best written female villian I've seen. She was more able than most adults in her world, and even more cruel.
I liked that she was shown using her skill, intelligence and power rather than relying on her femininity to get what she wanted, which is what happens with most female villains. She was extremely charismatic too, and knew how to use that to her advantage. She didn't like anyone she couldn't control, which is why she had a love-hate relationship with Zuko. Sometimes he listened to her, other times he didn't. I expect that's why she didn't like Iroh either. She said it was because he was soft but I think that it's cos he could see right through her and not be easily tricked.
In the end, she was as much of a victim of Ozai as Zuko was. He wasn't a good father to either of them, treating one with contempt and expecting the impossible from the other. Her breakdown at the end of the series was a surprise to a lot of people, but it made the most sense to me. As smart as she is, she's only 14. To be that uncaring and calculating, even with people she considered friends, there was definitely something wrong in her psyche. She felt that the only way to have people around her was to make them fear her, as that's what her father did. It's why she freaked out when Mai and Ty Lee turned on her, and everything went downhill from there. It was a sad ending for her, and I'd like to think she got better with time, but given everything she went through, I doubt she'll ever get over being beaten by Zuzu.
Special shout-out to Angelia Pickles, most evil toddler ever. XD
