My thoughts on Season 6 of NCIS

I just re-watched Judgement Day.  Yes, I have been stalling watching the episode again in its entirity.  I was struck at the end with what were my first thoughts upon seeing the finale.  I thought at first for some reason it was another cover-up.  That Tony, McGee and Ziva woulds remain in their positions only "officially" having been assigned to other duties.  Possibly under other names (for outsiders)??

I like House, though admittely much less this last season.  The point of any television show is for the writer to "sell" the characters to the audience, correct?  And yes, we all know the characters aren't guaranteed for life (or even real); and yet we invest in these people.  Psychological we tie ourselves to them, wondering what they must be thinking, how, when and why.

Therefore it is somewhat easy to see when a show makes a huge leap and uproots the very foundation in which the audience fell for...well, we are bound to be upset.  Shipper-ness aside, these characters make this show.  Each one of them represents our humanity; therefore making it believeable and "real".  I'm as human as anyone else and I fully admitt that our nature tends to steer towards the "the grass is greener..." approach.  However, I can honestly say that with this show, which is just as stimulating intellectually as it is asethically, I would have been content to watch another 3 seasons of the same characters experiencing life and solving crimes.  I don't neccessarily think that each season must end with a huge cliff hanger or upheaval.  True fans will return to watch the interactions and plot lines play out.

I am trying to keep an open mind regarding this season...I know I will watch it regardless but my heart will not be in it.  In the back of my mind will be the thought that these new characters were put in place to 'stir up' the show and catch ratings.  No, I am more interested in the human aspect of the show rather than worrying about the numbers of people who tune in each week.  Then again...I'm not dependent on the liveihood of the show...JMHO.
