Brittany climbed out of bed, feeling the same old wariness of the unfamiliar room. It was week 2 at Eric and John Berry's house and Brittany was nowhere near comfortable. The only thing keeping her sane was Santana and Rachel. Her rocks. The loves of her life.

Quietly Brittany went downstairs, heading towards the sounds of forks scraping against plates. She managed a small smile as she slid into a seat next to Santana, and John set a plate of pancakes down in front of her.

The man asked her if she slept well, and Brittany just looked at him.

"She slept fine," Santana said sharply.

John smiled sadly and dropped the subject. He kept trying to get Brittany to talk. Just like everyone else that came in contact with the blonde.

"Aren't you hungry?" Eric asked Rachel.

Brittany watched her petite girlfriend intently.

"We're gonna be late," Rachel mumbled. "Thanks for breakfast."

Watching her two girlfriends hurrying out, Brittany picked up her pancake and shot Eric a shrug before following. None of this was any of his business and he should stop asking questions.
Santana held Brittany's hand as they walked outside after Rachel. Their girlfriend had gotten a head start and wasn't close enough for Santana to reach out to. Rachel was waiting by the car parked in the driveway, behind Eric and John's suburban. The car belonged to Santana, who'd taken up the role of chauffeur and protector for her girlfriends.

"I hope we have all the same classes," Brittany said quietly, and Santana nodded.

She didn't care who she had to threaten, she'd find a way to watch over Rach and Britt.
The girls reluctantly climbed into the car, nervous about their first day at a new school and angry that they had to go through the whole process again.
Santana twisted the key in the ignition and peeled out of the driveway, heading in the direction of McKinley High. Sitting in the passenger’s seat, Rachel watched the houses of Lima fly by. She still couldn't believe that these nice, well taken care of homes could house such judgmental, fake people.

Rachel knew people had immediately put them on the Not List because they were foster kids. She didn't like it. It wasn’t not like she’d wanted her parents to leave her. The only good thing that came of her parents leaving her alone at the park was she met Santana and Brittany at the orphanage. And thanks to a very nice social worker, the three girls had been together ever since.

"We're here," Santana said grimly, putting the car into park in a space in the lot outside the school.

Rachel inhaled deeply. She craned her head so she could look at each girl. "Let's do this."
"If anyone even looks at us wrong, can I beat the shit outta them?" Santana asked her girlfriends, looking between the two of them. New schools always sucked and the only thing that made them tolerable was the three of them being together.

Brittany just gave a small smile. She didn't talk much these days and not at all to anyone who wasn't Rachel or Santana.
Rachel smiled slightly at Santana. "I don't think that's advisable. I wouldn't object to a stern glare."

Before her protective girlfriend could reply, a boy came swooping by, two cups of brightly colored liquid clenched in his beefy hands. Rachel automatically stepped back as Santana stepped forward in front of her and Brittany.

With a cruel smile, the boy tossed the cups, showering Santana with the contents. He swaggered off like nothing had even happened.

Brittany was trembling as Santana stood stock still, and Rachel hated seeing fear on Brittany's face. But she also hated the fury on her more volatile girlfriend’s face.
Santana felt like she had brain freeze after having the ice cold slushie tossed in her face. She clenched and unclenched her fists, trying for a long moment not to go charging after that asshole and introduce his face to the asphalt. She knew the girls hated violence, especially Brittany.

After what felt like forever, Santana felt Rachel's small hand wrap around her wrist. Comforting. Warm. A damn good reason to stay where she was. She turned to face her girlfriends.

"Help me clean this off," she gritted out, not quite ready to lose all her anger.
Walking quickly, Brittany held tightly onto one of Santana's arms. She felt the drink sliding onto her own skin and she couldn't imagine being covered in it. Brittany felt the tremors of rage that seemed to be rolling off the Latina.

Rachel pointed out that a bathroom was close by so they altered their direction. Brittany wished she could do something to help her girlfriend, but apart from killing that boy - which she definitely wouldn't do, no matter how tempting; it was wrong! - she couldn't see anything that she could do.

A shriek startled Brittany. Instantly she dropped Santana's arm and covered her face with her arms.

"I'm so sorry!" a girl cried.

"My nose!" Rachel moaned.
Reacting purely on instinct, Santana didn't have the time to process who had hurt Rachel before she shouldered them out of the way. Hard.

"Are you okay, babe?" Santana asked Rachel, worried and still pissed off after being slushied. She knew this new school would be a disaster. Santana took a breath before reaching out to carefully touch Rachel's cheek and angled her girlfriend's face up as Rachel moved her hands away from her nose enough for Santana to see the damage.
Mortified, Quinn Fabray managed to balance herself after being shoved so she didn't fall to her ass. She stared at the girls in front of her, noticing the blonde first after trying to accept the chaos of tenderness and cold slushy. The girl had backed up and was shaking her head frantically, hiding her face behind her hands.

"I'm sorry," Quinn said again, feeling useless.
Pushing Santana away, Rachel reached for Brittany. Gritting her teeth to ignore the pain, she pulled the blonde close.

"It's okay," Rachel breathed into Brittany's ear. "We're okay."

"That’s it. We're on the next plane out of here," Santana growled.

Brittany continued whimpering, shuddering as horrible memories flooded her. She tried to tell Santana to make it stop, but she only managed a strangled sound. If only she was as strong as Santana. Maybe then she could ask forth help she desperately needed.
