"No. No. No! NO!" Jade's voice grew louder with each no. "You idiot! How could you mess something so important up?!"
The owner of the flower shop tried not to show how frightened he was. "I'm sorry miss. Perhaps we could-"
"It's too late. Her birthday is today!"
"Well maybe your friend-"
"Girlfriend! Tori is my girlfriend!" Jade had to remind herself that she wasn't allowed to punch people in the face anymore. Tori had made that very clear after their first date had ended with Jade punching the host -promptly getting her banned from the restaurant forever.
Paling the man nodded hastily, beads if sweat forming on his already shiny forehead. "My apologies miss. I didn't know."
"Whatever. Give me another bouquet. Make it snappy. School starts in 35 minutes and I have more stops along the way." Sighing, Jade leaned against the counter with closed eyes. She heard the man scuttle away -still apologizing- but she ignored him. Instead she focused on a mental image of Tori's face. The way her lips curved up as she smiled that special smile that was just for Jade. Smiling now, Jade felt her nervous body relax, the anger and anxiety draining out as mental-Tori smiled at her.
Jade still could believe a girl like her had landed a girl like Tori. The two girls couldn't have been more different. Sweet, funny, caring Tori versus rude, sarcastic, and miss-could-care-less Jade. Yet, despite all of that, the girls got along great and their love gave Romeo and Juliet a run for their money.
"H-here you go." the man stuttered.
Annoyed, Jade gave him a cold look. He had interrupts her happy-Tori-thoughts. "Took you long enough!" she snapped. Grabbing the bouquet, Jade swept out of the floral shop, heading for her car.
Once at her destination, Jade entered the chocolate shop to buy Tori's favorite chocolate truffles.
"Sorry, we don't sell those anymore."
Jade froze. "Excuse me?"
"Those are only made in the winter. However, I believe our spring truffles will be just as-"
"But those aren't her favorites! It's Tori's birthday and everything has to be perfect!" Jade felt like ripping her hair out. Why was everything so messed up today??
"I'm sure your friend-"
"Girlfriend!" Jade corrected sharply. Why did everyone automatically assume Tori was just a friend?
The lady blinked. "Well, I'm sure your girlfriend would like-"
Turning on her heel, Jade stalked out. She didn't have time for this. Next door was a bakery. She would get Tori's fix of chocolate there.
Warm bag of chocolate croissants in hand, flowers in the other, Jade hurried into school, searching for her girlfriend. The rest if the day was going to be perfect. It had to be.
Today was the first celebration of a birthday since the two became a couple. And Jade wanted it to be memorable. So she had made reservations at the fanciest place in town and had reserved a limo rodeos them around town -something Tori has always wanted to do.
Still scanning the area, Jade anxiously ran over the poem she had written for Tori. She panicked as the lines blurred together and she couldn't remember a single word.
"Hey babe!" Tori startled Jade when she wrapped her arms around Jade's waist.
"Happy birthday sweetie!" Jade beams. She hands Tori the flowers and gooey chocolate croissants.
"Aw. Thanks!" Tori flashed that bright, special Jade smile.
Jade recited her poem, hating how she spoke to quickly and stumbled over the words, but Tori's light kiss on the lips made her feel better.

First they arrive at the restaurant to find out that a kitchen fire had shut the place down just two hours ago. Then the limo gets not one but two flat tires.
Jade is ready to cry and call the whole thing off. As a tear manages to defy her and trickle down, Jade turns away. Tori's birthday is waiting.
"Jade." Tori says softly.
Jade ignores her girlfriend.
"Jade, babe, please look at me."
Wiping at her eyes, Jade reluctantly turns towards the singer.
"Why're you crying?"
"I ruined your birthday."
"Sweetie, you couldn't have known this would happen. And it's not like you slashed the tires... Things just happen. We have no control on what and when things happen."
"But-"
"I'm out with my girlfriend. She is looking ridiculously hot in her dress. I spent the day with her being showered with gifts, kisses, and a sweet poem. I don't need anything else. Being here, overlooking the beautiful city of Los Angeles, with you is all I need." Tori whispered in Jade's ear.
"You really aren't mad?"
"Why would I be mad? This just means more alone time with my girl."
