Twofold Awesomeness

The awesomeness of this weekend is twofold:

1. I found out on Friday morning that I am the new administrative assistant for the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association).  I start June 4 officially, but probably May 29.

2. Merlefest.  Guess who showed up to jam with everyone under the sun...John Paul freaking Jones!  Of the concerts I saw, ( Read more... )

Apparently they got back together in 2003, probably to pay the bills. My mom was looking forward to them more than anyone else on the bill (I found that odd, but to each her own), though I was so cold I couldn't really function during most of their set. I like that song about fishing in the dark.

I'm still jealous that you got to meet Fannie Flagg. I adore her. Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man is one of my favorite books ever.

Did you ever know Amber Quick at 'Southern? She started with us but took a year off. She was in Hilltop Singers, lots of theatre productions, etc. She's really amazing as Daisy Fay.

My dad's a huge Dirt fan, I guess I got a taste for 'em as a kid. They represent a freakish brand of 70's/80's New Wave Bluegrass that's so bad it's good. That's the only way I can think to describe them.
