Word Challenge - River

“I can’t swim.”

The blond’s head shot around, looking baffled at the redhead still standing on the shore.

“What do you mean you can’t swim?”

The redhead did not appreciate the tone the blond had used. He simply crossed his arms in front of him, steeling his gaze on the other.

“Just that. I do not recommend we continue this.”

To say the blond was astounded would be an understatement. He understood the young kage came from a village where the nearest beach was at least a two day trek. Rivers were few and far between in the Land of Wind, and the ones that could be found were shallow and quick to disappear. Really, he did understand. But the redhead had visited Konoha a number of times. He had travelled far and wide throughout the land to visit the other kages and unite shinobi everywhere. Not once had he spotted a body of water and felt the urge to just float along in it? Being unable to resist it himself, Naruto was amazed to say the least.
Fumbling with his words, the blond managed to spill out a simple ‘But…’ before the redhead cut him off.

“I am content with sitting here.”

The dry tone set the blond off.

“Well, I’m not.”

Gaara watched as hands flew onto tanned hips, blue eyes narrowed in defiance. The redhead did what he did best and offered a compromise.

“Would you prefer if I walk on top of the water?”

The same hands moved again, flying into the air, paired with an incredulous expression on the blond’s face.

“Absolutely not! And no sand! Get over here.”

“Naruto…”

This time, it was the kage who was interrupeted.

“No. No. I know what I’m doing.”

The blond watched the muscles above the other’s eye raise, scrunching the prominent scar just slightly.

“Really, I do. Stop giving me that look. Now get over here before I physically move you.”
