Summary- Izzie is Callie's intern and everything gets turned upside down.
Chapter 28
Callie groaned when she saw who her intern was. She hated working with Izzie Stevens. The woman just got on her nerves and she hated ortho. Even when they were forced to work together, Izzie just couldn’t be quiet for the day and deal with the cases she got, no she had to bitch and moan about everything.
“Stevens, come on, we have a full board today,” Callie told her. “We need to round on patients, then you have to run labs for afternoon pre ops, then we have three surgeries and then post op, and then we’re done.”
“You’re still allowed to do that much in one day and be that pregnant?” she questioned gathering the charts they would need for rounds.
“I’m pregnant, not diseased. I know my limits. Now, if you plan on being a smart ass all day, you can just write post op notes all day and not see the OR.”
“Yes Dr. Torres,” Izzie mumbled as she followed her into a patient room. She hated that she was on ortho. She almost wanted to go do charts all day so she didn’t have to spend the day with Callie.
After rounds and Izzie completing labs for the day, the two found themselves in the scrub room, scrubbing in for their first surgery. Izzie kept glancing over at Callie and her wedding set. Why did Callie have it all? Why did she get George? Why did Denny die? Izzie was about to open her mouth and say something but noticed Callie had left the scrub room, she followed, not wanting to be yelled at.
Through out the surgery Izzie answered all the questions Callie directed at her at, but she was too busy plotting in her mind. She would get Callie, for everything. She would get her good, this plan was priceless. She couldn’t help but smirk behind her mask.
Callie allowed Izzie to close and headed into the scrub room and scrubbed out, tossing everything into the bin before grabbing a robe and heading out to speak with the family, telling them everything had gone well. “Dr. Torres!” Izzie called. “I need to talk to you.”
“I thought I told you to get the patient to recovery and then come get the family,” Callie stated.
Izzie grabbed Callie’s arm and darted her eyes around the room. “I just really need to talk to you right now. Come on,” she said leading her into an empty exam room.
Callie rolled her eyes. She had no idea what type of game Izzie was trying to play here. It made no sense what so ever, but she was wondering. She watched Izzie close the door. Callie crossed her arms over her chest. “What Stevens? I don’t have time for this.”
“Your marriage i9s a sham, George only married you because it was the right thing to do, since you got pregnant and all. We were on call the other night together and we got to talking and we had the best sex of my life. Oh and this ring,” Izzie grinned pulling it off her finger. “It’s a promise ring, from George, that one day we’ll be together.”
“You’re lying,” Callie hissed at her. George would never do something like that too her. “George, he took vows and he would never go against them.”
“He would when he doesn’t love his wife. He just didn’t want his son to be considered a bastard child. Or is it even his Callie?” Izzie questioned.
Callie placed her hands protectively over her stomach. “You do not bring my child into this. Do you understand me?”
“Do you understand me? You’re marriage was doomed for the start and George has already gotten a lawyer to get that kid from you before you ruin it. I just don’t want you to be too stunned when you see the divorce papers and all,” she shrugged with a smile.
“If you think I believe you for a second, I don’t,” Callie told walking past her and out of the exam room. George would never do such a thing. He had told her time and time again that he hadn’t married her because of Baby O, he had married her, because he loved her. She had to trust in her husband, no matter what his best friend was saying. She went out to the nurses station and sat down, closing her eyes and opening them again, only to see spots. She rubbed her eyes with both her hands, but the spots still returned. She reached for the phone and paged Alex, since Addison had the day off. Something wasn’t right.

Callie sat on the exam table, in her scrubs, waiting for Alex to return with the ultrasound machine. Her blood pressure was high, too high. He wanted to check the baby and be sure he was okay. He entered a minute later and smiled at her. “Feeling any better?” he questioned. “And are you sure you don’t want to tell me what caused the high blood pressure and the spotting?”
She shook her head, no one needed to know. She didn’t need George to stress over this. She was sure she would be fine, she just needed to be sure. Alex sighed as he pulled her gown up to expose her belly. He squirted some gel onto her skin, before beginning to move the probe around. “Say hi to your son Mom,” he smiled as he watched the screen. Everything looked good. “He’s fine, the placenta is good, everything is good. So again, tell me what happened Callie?”
“Nothing, I just started seeing spots and I didn’t feel well. By the time I got up here, I was spotting and my blood pressure is sky high.”
“Callie, all of that doesn’t just happen. You’ve had a picture perfect pregnancy. I want to monitor your blood pressure for a few hours and see if it goes down. I’m also going to put you on a monitor to watch him,” he explained as he wiped her belly off.
“Alright, I’ll stay and be monitored,” she told him. She wouldn’t put up a fight to that. She wanted to be sure that her son was alright. “Just tell the Chief, and make sure no one else finds out,” she said with a nod. “Do not tell George.”
“Callie, why don’t you want me to tell George? He’s your husband. He’s your son’s father. He needs to know what is going on with the two of you. He deserves to know. He you two get into a fight, is that why this happened?” he questioned.
“No, George isn’t why this happened. I told you, I just started not feeling well,” she explained.
“And I don’t believe you, but fine, I won’t tell George,” he said as he wrapped the monitor around her belly and positioned it properly waiting to hear Baby O’s heartbeat. He smiled and pulled her gown down. “Just rest, I’ll be back to check on you in a little while.”
“Thanks Alex,” she smiled.
“Not a problem Callie, just rest so I don’t have to admit you.”

George smiled when he saw Izzie sitting at the nurses station. He knew she was assigned to Callie for today, and he hadn’t seen Callie all day. “Hey Iz, have you seen my wife?”
“Um no, she told me since I hated ortho I could do charts all day,” she smiled with a simple shrug.
“No one has seen her around in awhile and the rest of her surgeries for the day got canceled,” he stated rubbing the back of his neck.
“Maybe she wasn’t feeling well and went home?” Izzie suggested.
“Usually she comes and finds me to tell me, she’s leaving or pages me, or something. So I don’t think she just went home. I guess I’ll just keep looking.”
“Well, if I see her, I’ll be sure to tell her you’re looking for her.”
“Thanks Izzie,” George said with a nod of his head before heading in another direction in search of his wife.
Izzie sunk down into her chair and breathed a sigh of relief. She had no idea where George had gone, but if he couldn’t find her, that was a good thing. Maybe she was packing her things, getting ready to leave Seattle, but that was too fairy tale. Maybe she had just gone home to cry her eyes out like a little girl. The good thing was, George suspected nothing. Her hands were clean.

Callie smiled when Alex came in. “What did the Chief say?”
“He’ll be in to speak with you.”
“It’s like the principal coming to me,” she sighed rolling her eyes. “His heart beat has stayed pretty even. No contractions, my blood pressure is down a little,” she told him.
“Which are all good things, but I want your blood pressure down a little more before I send you home. He’s doing really well though, so he must be strong. Are you sure you don’t want to tell me why this happened? Because I’m pretty sure it didn’t just happen for no reason.”
Callie sighed and rubbed her face with her hands, “Izzie told me she slept with George and that he only married me because I’m pregnant. He’s told me that isn’t true time and time again, but I guess it got the best of me and it shouldn’t have.”
“Who do you believe?”
“I should believe my husband right?”
“Are you doubting?”
“I shouldn’t be.”
“You’re allowed too,” he reminded softly sitting down next to her.
“I should believe in my husband and the vows we took to each other.”
“But if you are doubting, that’s alright. You could just tell him what happened and what she said and let him reassure you that it isn’t true. You know, I’m not George’s biggest fan, but he loves you. He looks at you as if you’re a Goddess and you deserve that from your husband. He loves you Callie and I’m pretty sure Izzie did this to be cruel, not because it really happened.”
She slowly nodded her head, “You’re right. I knew that, but I let it get the best of me, and here I am, being observed,” she laughed rubbing her belly. “Sorry Baby O,” she whispered too him. “I shouldn’t listen to the mean things Izzie says about Daddy.”
Alex patted her hand and stood up, “I want to watch you for a few more hours, to be sure your blood pressure goes all the way down. Sit tight for me. Don’t go all off on the Chief or anything. You’ll only find yourself here longer.”
“Will do, Dr. Karev,” she smiled at him as he left the room and Chief came in. “Afternoon.”
“Dr. Torres, how are you feeling?” he questioned crossing his arms over his chest and staring at her. He never pictured he would see her in here until delivery day. He had been monitoring her pregnancy closely, along with Addison and everything was fine.
“A lot better then I was earlier. I was airing on the edge of caution,” she explained to him with a slight shrug. “Alex, just wants to watch me a little longer to make sure my BP stays down,” she added.
“What happened that caused this?”
“I would appreciate if Dr. Stevens wasn’t assigned to my service until I return from maternity leave.”
“So Dr. Stevens landed you in this hospital bed by being on your service?”
“Chief, she attacked me, personally. Not as a professional, not about my professional life, but about my personal life, tossing lies out about my husband and my child. So I would really like if she wasn’t assigned to my service again until I’ve had my son.”
“Dr. Torres, you should be able to be professional at work, in this hospital.”
“Chief, I was professional. She came to me and said we needed to talk. I’m not lying, because now, I know everyone will be watching me like a hawk, so do you think I want to be laying in this hospital bed? No, but I am. So no, I didn’t start this, Stevens did.”
“Very well. I’ll speak with Dr. Stevens. You have off until your next appointment with Addison. She will clear you to come back or you’ll have to wait until your next appointment,” he said to her.
Callie nodded her head, she didn’t like those circumstances, but they were what she would have to live with for four days. If she didn’t listen, the Chief wouldn’t allow her to return. “Thank you for checking on us Sir.”
“Just take care of yourself Dr. Torres and that future surgeon.”
“Will do.”

After leaving Callie’s room, the Chief went in search of finding George. That day he was assigned to Dr. Shepherd. He found George filling out a chart at the nurses station and smiled at him, crossing his arms in front of him. “Dr. O’Malley.”
“Evening Chief,” George smiled glancing up from his chart.
“Why aren’t you with your wife?”
“I’ve been looking for her, for hours. No one has seen her. She isn’t at home, and she isn’t answering her phone. I’m getting nervous, but I thought maybe she’s asleep in an on call room or something.”
Richard nodded and realized the young man in front of him had no idea what was going on with his wife and child. It wasn’t exactly his place to tell George, but he felt as if he was compelled too. He swallowed hard and sighed. “George, Callie had a scare today. Her and the baby are fine though.”
“What type of scare?” he questioned dropping the pen in his hand. Why hadn’t anyone found him and informed him of this.
“She was seeing spots and spotting. Alex did an ultrasound and everything was fine. Her BP came down and the baby is fine. We’re just monitoring her now,” he explained.
“What happened?”
“My understanding is her and Dr. Stevens got into an altercation.”
“What room is she in?”
“She’s up on OB in room 454,” Richard told him.
“Thanks Chief.”
“Go on and stay with her. I’ll tell Dr. Shepherd where you are and why you are. If you need tomorrow off, let me know. I told Callie she is to stay away from this hospital until her next appointment with Addison.”
“Thank you Chief.”
“Not a problem Dr. O’Malley, just go and be with your wife and child.”
~*~*~
George opened the door to Callie’s room and smiled seeing her resting, with a hand over her stomach. He glanced around the room as he stepped inside and closed the door. He hadn’t pictured them being here until Baby O was here. “Hey Callie. How are you feeling?” he questioned softly as he neared her bed.
“Better then I was before,” she smiled turning her head to see him. She held her hand out to him. “Who told you I was here?”
“Chief,” he said sitting on her bed.
“Yeah, I figured. I told Alex not to tell you.”
“And why did you do that my love?” he questioned cupping her chin in his hand. “Callie, I want to know when things are going on with the two of you. Instead of being in surgery, I should have been by your side. You need to tell me when things happen.”
“I was fine though George, really. I just started seeing spots and figured I should get checked out and I did. Alex is going to let me go in a little while. I didn’t want to worry you, because there was nothing to worry about, but I do have a question for you and I need you to answer me as honestly as possible.”
“Anything.”
“Have you slept with Izzie?”
“No, never. Why where did that come from? She didn’t tell you we did, did she?”
“She did and she said some other things that aren’t important, and deep down I knew they weren’t true, but they just got the best of me and that’s how I wound up here. I asked Richard to be sure she isn’t assigned to me until after I return from having Baby O,” she said rubbing her belly.
“And you’re both fine?”
“Yes George, we are.”
“Callie, I would never do that too you. I love you too much and I love our family too much to destroy it with someone who can’t even be my best friend and respect my pregnant wife.”
“Okay,” she smiled placing her hand on the side of his face and pressing her lips into his. She had no reason to doubt him. Izzie was just trying to play games with her and it had worked, but not as she had planned.
~*~*~
Louise smiled when she heard the door open and she turned her head to see if it was George or Callie, she was a little surprised to see the two of them, coming in together. “Well, it’s been a long time since this happened,” she smiled as she stood up and went to greet them.
“George is insisting on watching me,” Callie said rolling her eyes and he helped her get her coat off.
“You were hospitalized today, of course I’m going to watch you and take care of you,” George stated hanging her coat up. “Mom, take her inside and make her sit down while I make her dinner.”
“George, I’m fine!” Callie exclaimed as Louise took her arm and led her into the living room.
“What happened sweetie?” she questioned moving her knotting to the side so Callie could sit down.
“Izzie said some things to me about George and the baby and my marriage and I got upset. I started seeing spots so I went upstairs to have everything checked out, well when I did, my blood pressure was too high and I was spotting. Baby O is fine though and I’m fine now. Richard just wants me to rest until my next appointment with Addison, so I’m going to listen. I’m fine now, so there is no reason for George to be going crazy.”
Louise smiled as she sat down next to Callie and wrapped an arm around her, “Well I’m glad the both of you are alright,” she said reaching a hand out and placing it on top of Callie’s belly. “You need to stay in here a few more weeks buddy. We don’t need you coming early and scaring all of us. So we will watch Mommy and make sure she takes care of you. Your grandma loves you very much,” she said rubbing Callie’s belly and feeling a kick before pulling her hand away. “Let George take care of you for a change Callie. Sit back, relax and enjoy.”
“Louise.”
“I’m serious.”
