Author's Note:  Okay, I know that everyone and their grandmother has written a post-prom fic, but I had to write this.  I read lots of MerDer and Addek fics, and even some Izzie/Alex(do they have a cute little name?)  Anyway, I wanted to expand on the conversation Christina and Derek had in the middle of season 2, where Christina chewed him out.  This is my way of venting my frustration with Derek.  Please tell me what you think.

It was the knock that awoke him, he had fallen asleep on the bed, lulled into a restless sleep by the sound of rain falling on the tin roof of the trailer and now someone was knocking on his door. He threw on some pants and stumbled through the small hallway of the trailer.

Truthfully, he had been expecting Meredith or Addison or the Chief. Or maybe the vet, come beat the crap out of him. He had not been expecting Christina Yang.

“Hello?”

“Can I come in?” She asked, sharply, clipped. There was no greeting or friendship in her voice.

He was still a little stunned and sleepy, he nodded and moved back allowing her to get in the trailer.

“Is Burke okay?” He asked. It was quite honestly the only reason he could think that Christina would be here.

“How could you?” She asked. Her voice wasn’t full of anger or resentment, and oddity for her, only sadness.

In an instant Derek knew what she was talking about.

“Christina…” he began, but she cut him off.

“You know what? Fuck you, Shepard.” Ah ha, there was the anger.

The venom in her voice was painful, but he didn’t say anything. There wasn’t anything to say.

“You broke her. Do you know that? She was broken, completely and utterly fucking smashed. And then she met Finn. She likes Finn, I like Finn. Finn is nice and dependable and is not hiding a wife on the other side of the country.”

“Christina-”

“No, no, you listen to me!”

Derek closed his mouth.

“Maybe the two of you are soul mates. Maybe you are destined to be together forever, wedding vows to OTHER people be damned. But I am her best friend, and I am not going to stand by and watch you rip her apart again. Tear her into shreds and still remain the nice guy who stayed with his wife.”

Christina took a deep breath, and Derek thought her saw the beginnings of tears in her eyes, but then she blinked and they vanished. He wondered if maybe it was the beers he had before he fell asleep.

“You and Addison have things to work out. Meredith and Finn have things to work out. But for now, you are going to stay away from her. No cornering her in the locker room or exam rooms. If she is waiting for the elevator, you will take the stairs. Got it?”

No, he didn’t. And there was no way in hell he was going to let this bossy little bitch tell him what to do.

“Meredith and I will work out our problems without-”

“No you won’t. You will stay away from her until you have either divorced your wife or remained married to her. And if it is the latter and I hear Meredith utter so much as one ‘McDreamy’ your ass is mine.”

Christina, obviously having said what she wanted to say, turned to leave. Derek knew he had to speak now.

“I love her Christina. I get that you maybe can’t understand that, but…I love her.”

She turned back to face him and know he was almost sure that he saw tears in her eyes.

“That’s not fucking good enough.”

Derek thought maybe he knew where some of the hostility was coming from, he decided to take a chance, “How’s Burke doing?”

She cleared the three feet between them in less than a second, she grabbed his neck and pushed him up against the wall.

“Don’t you dare,” she hissed in his ear.

“Christina-”

“I am Doctor Yang, and you are going to stay the hell away from me and my friend.”

She let go of him and walked more purposefully towards the door.

“She’s my friend too,” he said.

She didn’t even turn back and her reply was muffled by the slamming door.

“No, she’s not.”

Derek sat back down on the bed, he looked at his watch. It was only eleven o’clock now, but it was time for a drink. He went to the cabinet above the stove top.

Christina sat in her car, on a service road about a mile from his trailer for a long time. Finally she wiped her eyes and drove to Meredith’s house. Meredith met her at the door.

“Izzie ate some noodles!” Meredith announced excitedly.

Christina gave a miserable smile, which Meredith picked up on, “What’s wrong? Where have you been? Visiting Burke?”

Christina shook her head, “I’m fine, really. Just drop it.”

Meredith did so, leading Christina into the kitchen where George, Callie, Alex and Izzie were sitting around the table.

Watching Meredith stand there, talking to Izzie, Christina’s heart ached for her friend. Dr. McDreamy was going to tear Meredith’s heart apart, like a hurricane, destroying everything in it’s path.

And even though she was Christina Yang, surgical intern extraordinaire, top of her class, always right…there wasn’t a thing she could do about it.

Not a fucking thing.
