Paging, Dr. Red

subject: just fluff again until a plot finds its way to my head.
rating: mild
summary: just a little stream of consciousness in Meredith's mind this time. Last one probably. I'm moving on to my regular pairings after this.

You hang your head in exhaustion. With your eyes closed you lean forward against the cool, unyielding metal of the locker. It feels like an icepack on your pounding skull. You hear the door swing open and you can sense the flood of light into the dim room. She's already out of her scrubs and her purse and coat are hanging on her arm. You give her a slow, defeated little smile. It's been a hell of a long day. She takes another step forward and drops her things on the bench. She wants to go home but she's ready to wait for you. You are pleased but it doesn't really mollify you. Getting yelled at by Derek in a surgery and having Addison defend you while everyone watches curiously and exhanges confused glances is still not your idea of a good time.

Her hand is on your back and she's sitting down beside you. You cast a glance towards the door but she catches your chin in her palm and sort of forces you to look at her. You relent and gaze up at her and once you do you're glad. She's smiling at you and pulling you in for a kiss and in these moments you kind of forget about any humiliation in the OR. When she pulls away she's grinning. You can feel yourself giving her a sort of dazed, sheepish smile and suddenly you feel absolutely horrible for ignoring her because seriously, she wasn't the one who embarassed you. She defended you for God's sake.
You say quietly, "Thanks for today. You didn't have to".
She looks back at you and says simply, "I did have to. You were right, Meredith. And he was wrong."

As stunned as you are by this information you're sort of sad to because you thought she was doing it for you. Out of some notion that she had to protect you or something. Disappointment must show on your face because she laughs a little and after a moment you laugh too at your own audacity. Without missing a beat she says, "Are you coming home soon?" You look back at the shower and she sighs.
"Okay. I'll see you there in a little while then."
She bends down and kisses you on the lips and you smell the floral scent of her shampoo and it makes you smile even wider because its your shampoo and every now and then you smell it everywhere around Seattle Grace because Izzie uses it sometimes and George does when he's out of his own.

When you're out of the shower you grab your coat and head for the elevator. As the doors are closing a strong, capable hand parts them hastily and you groan. The hand is followed by the rest of that long, lovely arm that still looks fantastic when part of a whole. Not as fantastic as what you know is waiting for you at home in bed possibly wearing reading glasses and a sweatshirt or preferably nude under the covers. Obviously the latter would be better but you'll take either one.

As he shoots you a typically soulful gaze you almost pity him. Almost. The man did berate you in front of half the SGH staff today. He seems content to watch you and hope his natural magnetism will simply pull you into his arms. You wonder if he tries this when Addison's in the elevator with him. Before the doors can close again you make your escape, murmuring something about a forgotten file. Good night, you call over your shoulder.

At home you practically sprint up the stairs and throw open the door to your room. Addison is in bed already, her red hair pinned up smartly and her red reading glasses glinting in the lamplight. You take a deep breath and smile. You've got some reading you could catch up on. Addison suddenly pulls off the covers and your eyes are drawn downward. A confident grin attaches itself to her lips and she smirks at the surprise and the desire in your eyes. This is a new one. She says in her most authoritative and seductive voice, "Come to bed, Meredith".
