New Job

Yesterday I was made an offer and I accepted it a few hours later. Thus, unemployment lasted for about two weeks.

The better part is that I don't have to start for two weeks, which means that now I truly have time off. It's a bit more than time off too--I can safely say that this feeling I have right now might be the closest to stress-free I've been in months. I literally have nothing to do, and while I will have a new job and lots of work in two weeks, it isn't as though I've left any projects in mid-stream or any long-term messes that I have to look forward to. Just a clean slate.

So that will be a full month of not working, which I remember I was clamoring for at the beginning of the year. Add together the severance and unemployment benefits, and there will be no net loss of income during this month either. The new job promises to be far more challenging and command greater responsibilities, but this is a good thing in light of the work I had to do at my last job. On top of all that there's a salary raise that came with this.

There's more too.

They contacted me; I did not know of this place, let alone that they had a position. Someone I'd never met at my old job passed my name along and this led to an interview. Once I got the job I sent him a thank you note; in so doing I found out a few people at my old company made phone calls and passed around names to see if places were hiring for the affected positions. One name was mine, among others.

That was.. a very nice thing to do. Shows the good side of people I'd argue.

The new job is right across fair park; it's about a 5 minute drive from where I live. Another era of close to zero commuting stress is here again. It's a much smaller company, but one with a similar spirit as the place I left behind. There should be some familiarity and compatibility there.

I must admit I'm not sure what I did to deserve this break; while the rest of the world worries about the economy, here I am, with essentially a month's paid vacation, a raise, and a new challenge. I'm very fortunate.
