H50 Shelburne speculation (SPOILERS FOR SEASON ENDER!)

strangemuses, and I theorized a while back that Shelburne was actually Steve's mother. So long ago, actually, that we were HUGELY disappointed with the writing when Joe White claimed he was Shelburne.
For whatever reason, whether they had been planning this all along, or suddenly realized they had written a boring anticlimax to the mystery, or just had to fill in missing-Alex time with something, they picked it back up and fixed it, and it went exactly the way we thought it would.
This is my speculation for her storyline:
- she used to work for the CIA - story-wise, I doubt they popped back out of the woodwork 'just because'
- Shelburne is/was her cover name
- she was assigned to try to acquire Wo Fat as an asset while he was working for Chinese intelligence
- the Chinese found out, and in order for her family to remain safe, she had to fake her death
- it's possible the Yakuza were involved in some way (I suspect this due to the method of faking her death)
- since she's hiding in Japan, I doubt they were after her, though
- either that or the possibility that she tried to seduce Wo Fat could be behind his comment to Steve that he shouldn't dig too far into his family's past, because he might not like what he finds out
- because Steve found her, I think we may have more fun & games with the CIA next season
It'll be interesting to see how much of that is true...
