I hope you've seen the first episode, 'cause it's spoilery :) g_shadowslayer November 1 2006, 22:36:54 UTC
Hahaha you would! :) Okay. Let's hope this fits in a comment:

Jack has issues with doctors. No, not that type of Doctor -- members of the medical profession. Well, both, really, but that's besides the point.

Doctors expect certain things to happen, and when they don't, they get very, very curious. Very very curious isn't always the best thing, as far as Jack's concerned. But then again, he doesn't relish the thought of Owen acting as his GP. Owen might have good hands, but the man has a less than savoury feel about him that Jack just isn't comfortable with.

He's 'on leave' in Scotland -- actually trying to track down more information on that other kind of Doctor, but he's not about to tell the team since they thought he really needed a break -- when it happens. It's just a glimpse, but it looks like the same leather jacket, and he runs off after the man without even thinking. Doesn't even register the traffic or the people walking around -- tunnelvision at its worst. Normally, he'd be more aware, but not in this case...

The scooter hits him full-speed, spins him around and throws him to the curb. He can feel the bones crack, can feel something tear. Stupid, stupid obsessed fool.

"Let me through -- I'm a doctor!"

Jack can't help himself -- he smiles. He always did like a nice Scottish accent, and when he looks up he sees a pair of worried storm-blue eyes looking down at him. Nice face, good strong eyebrows, and a mouth that probably looks very nice smiling.

"No, lie still -- somebody call an ambulance!"

"No -- it's okay," he says, automatically falling back on old responses. "I threw myself out of his way -- just got the wind knocked out of me."

The eyebrows draw into a deeper frown. "You're not all right," the doctor says, gentle hands feeling along his legs now and that might be a problem really soon. "I saw him..."

"I'm fine -- really. Just a little surprised -- lost a year or two off my life. Or something." He sits up, feeling his vertebrae make those annoying popping crunches as everything realigns.

Whispered, now, "I saw him hit you."

Jack shakes his head, then flashes a dazzling smile and holds out his hand. "Captain Jack Harkness -- and you would be Doctor...?"

"Beckett. Carson Beckett," the man answers, shaking his hand. Then he cautiously helps Jack up and performs a little crowd control. Once they have more space to breathe and room to talk, he repeats, "I saw him hit you. You didn't jump, you were thrown."

Jack raises an eyebrow -- this man doesn't work for Torchwood (he knows all their faces), but he isn't reacting the way someone off the street would. Curiouser and curiouser. "And -- hypothetically speaking -- if I were thrown, I would...?"

"Be seriously injured, at the very least."

"But I'm not. So, I must not have been," Jack finishes with another smile.

"Pull the other one, then -- it's got bells on," Beckett says with a slight frown.

Jack can see him fiddling in his pocket with something, and instantly goes on alert. What's even more interesting is that Beckett sees this and recognizes it for what it is. "It's all right -- it's just a... um," he falters, then mutters something that might be 'oh bollocks' and pulls it out.

Jack can't help himself -- he just might be drooling. "That's a... where did you get that?" The small hand-held device is blinking and glowing softly, and Beckett obviously knows what he's doing with it.

"Um... at work. I... er." He looks down at it, then back up at Jack again. "You're not injured at all."

"No -- told you, I jumped."

"Mmhm..."

"I'll show you mine if you show me yours," Jack says with a wink. Playing doctor suddenly seems a lot more appealing than it has for a while.

Okay, haven't seen Torchwood, but I don't mind the spoilers. I need to try and get around to downloading those. Maybe before I travel at Thanksgiving.

Anyway, this is lovely. Carson would *so* not let someone who self-heals like that get away without an explanation. But how would Jack explain what Carson's scanner showed?

Very, very cute! :)

*grins* I probably won't have the time to follow up on it at the moment, but it could be quite entertaining :D And yes, Carson would be SO curious...
