Ever hear of the slippery slope?
Just like a muddy hillside, once you start down
It becomes increasingly difficult to stop your forward momentum.
Once we accept that certain rights have to be given up, it becomes easier and easier to give up more.
People who start down that slope without looking
Ahead, often end up at the bottom before they realize what happened.
There are cases throughout history that prove this theory true, Germany of 1936
Elected a leader that promised to solve all of their problems; hunger, joblessness, despair
If they would give him just a little bit
Of power. He incited riots against those he blamed
The cause of their predicament. He moved them together
Just to keep an eye on them. Then he seized their belongings,
Their property. Then he came up with a final solution, a way to end it all.
Too fantastic, we have learned too much to ever allow it to happen again, no we are safe.
How could a government
Take so much from its people, force
Them to do such horrible things? How could it be done?
Start with consolidating power; centralize it in one figure, one position.
“The memos
reflected a belief within the Bush
administration that the president had broad powers
that could not be checked by Congress or the courts.” And place that position
above all others. These limitations become accepted as necessary.Eliminate all appearance of wrong doing
“The CIA destroyed 92 videos involving terror suspects” Begin to gradually attack other freedoms guaranteed by the document
gave you your position in the first place
“eavesdropping on U.S. citizens without warrants, using
tough new CIA interrogation tactics and locking U.S. citizens in
military brigs without charges.” And begin to silence those brave enough
to speak up "First Amendment speech and press rights may also be subordinated”
Next attack those who might cause you problems in the future through intimidation or Trumped up charges;
“Fourth Amendment protections
against unwarranted search and seizure, for instance,
did not apply in the United States.” Rush and Glenn defend
Their leader, proclaim is ever loving wisdom over the hoards of uneducated
Americans. You won’t hear much of a cry….most think us paranoid, delusional
Or crazy. You won’t hear
much of a cry until they try to take
your guns, eliminate your only way to defend
your freedom. Oh, you must be mistaken, it cannot
happen here. Surely you are crying wolf, these things from us
cannot be taken. My friends; it is already here, these things are already
happening and our citizens go about their daily business accepting their losses and slipping their way down that dangerous slope.
See you at the bottom soon.
Speak up...Act up!
