20. Contemplating one's navel

So a while ago, h_westenra posed a question in comment about faith, and what I believe -- was I agnostic or skeptic, specifically, but I have a feeling she was asking about the whole range of possibility ( Read more... )

Raised Catholic, that kind of inherent discipline is hard to shake. Even harder to shake is the knowlege of my lack of discipline, but I have to question the tactic used.

They say once you hear the word of God, you can no longer claim innocense of it. So the missionaries set forth over the globe like an epidemic shrieking the word of the Lord that every town, village and tribe would no longer be able to claim ignorance of the Bible.

I think the only religion is time. It moves forwards and never backwards. When you say something, you can't unsay it. When you act, you cannot unact. When you love, you cannot unlove. When you hurt, you cannot unhurt. And so forth and so on. You have to to make a heavily efforted attempt to orchestrate a balance on your actions. Whether you seek the help of God, Allah, the stars, or yourself, I think that all of us are simply looking for an answer as to why if I slam my heart in the car door, I can't go back and remember to keep it instead of leave it somewhere so vulnerable.

Oh, I can certainly understand feeling the tuck of lack of discipline, even if I think it manifests in entirely different ways.

Fascinating the way that worked. A bit akin to bio-warfare, in its way; if it doesn't infect them, after all, then at least they're not in your Heaven. Or maybe I'm extra cynical tonight. I think I blame Nick Cave. Or maybe I blame the Bad Seeds. "People Ain't No Good" on repeat for an hour, probably not the best thing for someone's mood.

I think the only religion is time: That is...so entirely eloquent and heartbreaking, I couldn't come close to touching it if I tried. If you happen to find the answer, me sure to let me know.

Christianity: Biological Warfare. Yeah, epidemics frighten me, and in this case, one seems to cause the other both ways. I don't like knowing that reading a book changes the shape of what is right and wrong. I've never been the same after seeing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds play in 95. I'd say by some doctrines, you and I have fallen to another religion.

I don't really know where all that about time came from. It sort of dawned me just as I was writing. So really, any depth therein was drawn out from your update. I was just triggered to think. For once.

Have to admit, that's a little comforting -- that reassurance that I'm not completely dangling over the edge of sane.

God's not in right now. If you leave your prayer at the sound of the holy gong, he might get back to you by the Rapture.
