So this morning I'm driving to work around 8:30. "All Things Considered" is on NPR. There is an American journalist doing a commentary on his time spent in Rwanda during the genocides. He recently went to the Congo to follow up on the goings on of the Hutus. The whole story was painful, but at the end, he interviewed a Congonize man who, back in 1994, had to bribe the Hutus in order to have them shoot his wife instead of hack her to death with machetes. He started singing a song about how no matter where she is, he hopes she knows that he still loves her. Then, I LOSE IT. I'm driving and crying and trying not to blink, so I don't obstruct my vision and hit that bus in front of me, all the while still listening to this man sing in a language I don't understand. I pull up to my office a total mess.
Damn, NPR, these stories should have warnings.
