Say "Words!". I give you words. You post about them. That's the meme in a nutshell ^.^
1. Movies
--I am not a movie person. Now, despite what G claims, I do not "hate" movies. There are actually a few I quite enjoy. They're just not my major source of entertainment. I don't think I have the patience for them ^o^ I get antsy very quickly, so sitting still for over an hour to watch a movie is not easy. At the two hour mark there's a very good chance I'm not paying attention anymore.
There ARE a few that are very close to my heart though. "A League of Their Own" and "Far and Away" are family favorites. "Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz" is a Christmas tradition. I love pretty much any movie from the Disney Renaissance, or that is a musical. And then there are movies I share with G: "The Emperor's New Groove", "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (Jim Carrey version), and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". And then there are the handful of movies I just happen to like a lot: "Bee Season", "Dead Poet's Society", "The Lion in Winter", "Drop Dead Gorgeous", "The Prince of Egypt"...there are a few others.
2. Writing
--I started writing when I was six years old. It was a silly story about a girl whose cat ran away, but it got me started. I really began writing in earnest when I started fanfic, for Dragonall Z of all things. I was one of those people--still am to some extent--who get all these great ideas and start doing them immediately, but then don't know where to go with them and end up abandoning the project. That's why I thoroughly outline my projects nowadays; it's the only way they're going to get finished.
G and I approach writing very differently. She writes the "skeleton" and then goes back and fleshes it out. I on the other hand try to get right to the finished product. For the most part, each line you read is in its original form; it wasn't changed unless there was some sort of consistency or syntactical issue. This is probably why it takes so long for me to update; I don't always have the perfect thing to say.
Like every avid reader I've been trying to write a book since I was about 15. I have actually written a short story, "Deficiency" (based on a Yami no Matsuei fanfic I wrote of the same name) that was published in my old school's Lit Mag (of which I was Managing Editor). I plan on re-fleshing it out and sending it in to be published.
Writing, to me, is the most powerful form of expression there is. I have always had some sort of subliminal fascination with and adoration of words. There is this amazing power to them, and they are an artform all their own. Each word--hell, each letter--has its own beauty or ugliness, can carry so much or so little meaning and imagery, and can effect a person in the most profound ways. Words, I feel, are the carriers of ideas in a way that art and music aren't.
3. Adorable
--First of all I'm quite pleased that people associate me with "adorable" :D Well, pretty much anything to me can be adorable. My ten-month-old niece, a kitten, a sweet interaction between Luke and Noah, a piece of jewelry, my dog acting like her usual crazy self, the kissy-face emoticon G and I have on AIM of a lobster winking and blowing a kiss...I like the fact that I can easily confer the mantle of "adorable". The world needs more WAFFy moments.
I just really, really like cute things. :) I like the subtle beauty of something cute, as opposed to the overpoweringly gorgeous. I don't like things that are intimdating, including the forms of beauty. Cute is safe, but not in such a way that you've cut yourself short.
4. History
--I love it. I took AP American History in high school and was in the History Club, I took Western Civilization as an elective at my old school, and I read a lot of historical fiction. I think because I read and write so much, I have an appreciation for history. After all, what is it but a collection of stories, made more poignant by the fact that they are true?
I have a great respect for history as well, because I view existence as a spiral...forever progressing outward though passing through the same experiences. I believe very firmly in the maxim "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it", and I think the best president would be one who was a History major.
5. New York
--This one should have gone to G; she's the city girl ^.^ I've come to terms with the fact that New York is not the place for me. Too expensive for one, too troublesome to navigate for another, and the overall character of it doesn't fit with me. I want a place whose inherent character is peaceful...where you bring people and things in to make it noisy and lively, but at the end of the day it's a quiet little sanctum. New York is pretty much the opposite of that.
Unfortunately for me, the New Seminary is located in Manhattan. I refuse to give up on my dream of becoming ordained through them, but it looks like I will have to do correspondance study instead of live in the city.
