Day Two, a picture
I found this picture on my hard drive last night. I do not remember how I got it on my computer, but I know that I love this picture, and that's why I have it.
It's my Dad, way back in the day (when he still had hair :-)). You can tell it was most likely sometime in the 70s from the jeans he is wearing (he would never wear those pants now) and that awesome 70s-style coat he has on, so he was really young. I don't know exactly what age, but I'm gonna guess somewhere around 20 or so. I could be way off. Something tells me I'll have to ask him the next time I see him. :-)
Anyway, reason I like this picture so much is for a lot of reasons. One is that I don't know much about my dad's history, as in, him growing up and all that, because technically, he's my stepfather (my mother remarried when I was five), and honestly, when I was growing up, he and I did not get along. At all. There were some pretty bad times between my older sister, him, and me. So seeing this reminds me of his youth, of how happy a person he can be (and was), and how much untold story he carries around with him every day. The picture also speaks of his creativity and the fact that he is a fun person. I do remember having fun with him when I was a little kid. You know, typical dad-fare: stupid jokes, driving to the middle of nowhere and finding a tire park and taking crazy pictures, listening to his records (which, when I listen to them now, they tug at my heartstrings a little, not gonna lie), having him dress us up for Halloween...fun stuff.
And my dad is a crazy awesome creative person. You should see the pumpkins he carves for Halloween every year. Seriously. He makes this awesome spider pumpkin with wire hanger legs and paints it and everything. His pumpkins are amazing. One year we actually had an honest-to-goodness witch on a broom hanging in between two trees in our front yard like she was flying. He's crazy imaginative! And he can work with all kinds of materials, snow being one of them. :-)
Anyway, I know I'm blathering, but I just want to say that even though we had some hard times in the past, lately Dad and I have been getting better, maybe even closer (I mean, we still drive each other nuts sometimes, but it's getting better), and I have come to realize how lucky I am to have such an amazing supportive family. I really count my blessings when it comes to family. I'm one lucky bug!
Okay, you can go hurl now. I think I might have to. Hehe! ^_^ Pic is below, under the cut. ^_^
